WELCOME!

BLESSED LOUIS BRISSON, PRIEST

Blessed Louis Brisson was born in 1817 in Plancy, Champagne-Ardenne Region, France. He was an only child and his primary education took place mainly at home by his parents and with the local priest.

HE WAS ORDAINED

While being schooled Blessed Louis was particularly interested in the natural sciences. Later he desired to be a priest and after his training he was ordained on 18th December, 1840, in Troyes. Within the first year of his ordination, he became spiritual director of the monastery of the Visitation in Troyes. He did this at the request of the Superior of the monastery, Mother Marie de Sales Chappuis, who was convinced that Blessed Louis would be the priest to establish a religious community of men in the spirit of St Francis de Sales.

She eventually convinced Blessed Louis to establish this priestly order, though he was not exactly enthusiastic about it. In addition to his priestly activities, Blessed Louis served as a teacher in the nearby junior seminary and continued his early interest in science, constructing an astronomical clock used in the Motherhouse Convent of the Oblates of St Francis de Sales in Troyes.

HE ESTABLISHED SHELTERS FOR THE WOMEN COULD KEEP THEIR DIGNITY

Concerned with the welfare of working class girls in the textile mills, Blessed Louis established shelters where they could keep their dignity and become women of conscience and faith. In 1866 he co-founded the Oblate Sisters of St Francis de Sales to provide for their education and then in 1872 an order for priests and brothers performing similar apostolic work.

During the last thirty years of his life, Blessed Louis saw his religious community flourish and spread throughout Europe, Africa, South America, Central America and North America.

ALL IS IN GOD'S HANDS

The law on the Separation of the Churches and State and the secularisation of France at the beginning of the 20th century began with the secularisation of the religious houses, which included exiling their occupants. The oblates of St Francis de Sales transferred their General House to Rome, however, Blessed Louis retired to his birthplace in Plancy. He died on February 2, 1908. During the time of revolution and persecution Blessed Louis’ faith remained unwavering. “If everything seems lost,” he said, “and everyone has already surrendered his hope, the Lord will show His might and His influence. Then it will become clear to all that the decision lies only in His hands and we are capable of nothing.”

FATIMA APPARITION - 13 AUGUST

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 13th of August Marian Feast Days WELCOME! FATIMA APPARITION - AUGUST 13 The Fatima Children “BUT IN THE END MY IMMACULATE HEART WILL TRIUMPH.” But in the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me; it will be converted, and a certain period of peace will be granted to the world. THE AUGUST 13 EVENTS On August 13, the children were in jail at Ourem. The civil administrator threatened to boil them in oil if they did not tell the Lady’s secret. Though badly frightened, they could not think of disobeying our Lady. In disgust, the administrator finally freed them. A large number of people, not knowing that the children had been kidnapped, went to the Cova for the scheduled appearance of the Lady. At noon, there was a loud clap of thunder. Then, according to an eyewitness: “Right after the thunder came a flash, and immediately we all noticed a little cloud, very white, beautiful and bright,...

ST JOHN BERCHMANS, RELIGIOUS - 13 AUGUST

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 13th of August WELCOME! SAINT JOHN BERCHMANS, RELIGIOUS   (Patron Saint of Altar Servers.) The eldest boy of a poor cordwainer, in a small Belgian town, John was ever a dutiful, prayerful, and studious child. Our Lord called him when but young to leave his father and his father’s house, to serve Him in the Society of Jesus.  And because he was so good a son, it cost his father much to give him up to God; but he was too good a Christian to refuse outright.  HE WAS SENT TO ROME John had hardly taken his religious vows when he was sent to the centre of Christendom, the holy city of Rome. His modesty, his purity, shone out as great virtue always does; and the young laymen who attended the lectures would come to gaze upon his beautiful and holy face, and go away the better for the sight. GREAT VIRTUE Three short years, and his last sickness found him sighing for heaven, and three days before the great feast of Mar...
