SAINT INNOCENT, BISHOP OF MERIDA - 21 JUNE

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JUNE Saints celebrated on the 21st of June WELCOME! SAINT INNOCENT, BISHOP OF MERIDA Saint Innocent (Innocentius) lived in 7th century Spain. He was the 14th Bishop of Merida ( Augusta Emerita  [today's Archdiocese Mérida-Badajoz]).  He is particularly remembered for his prayers at a time of great drought; he asked God for fruitful rain and his request was granted. During the reign of Ferdinand the Catholic (1479-1516) and Isabella, Saint Innocent's mortal remains were rediscovered in the church of Saint Eulalia in Merida. The last solemn raising of his relics took place in 1632. (IV. 99.)
