  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JUNE Saints celebrated on the 7th of June WELCOME! SAINT SEBASTIANA, VIRGIN AND MARTYR The story of Saint Sebastiana goes back to the earliest times of the Church. She is said to have been converted and baptised by  Saint Paul in Heraclea in Thrace and to have suffered for Jesus as early as 93 A.D. She seems to have received her name from her native city of Sebaste in Phrygia , where her pagan father held the office of prefect for a long time. Later she came to Marcianople in Lower Moesia, now called Preslav , where she suffered much for Christ's sake. She was imprisoned, beaten with lead clubs and thrown onto a burning pyre, on which she remained unharmed, to the amazement of all onlookers.  A violent storm that arose as a result of her prayers extinguished the flames. SAINT SEBASTIANA THAUMATURGA, HERMITESS Saint Sebastiana, called " the wonderworker " ( Thaumaturga ) because of the many miracles she performed, is commemorated on June 7 . She seems to have led a holy existence in a desert in Egypt. SAINT JEREMIAS, DEACON AND MARTYR OF CORDOBA Saint Jeremias (Hieremias) [Jeremiah], (June 7, September 15, 17, 18) was a martyr who suffered in  Cordoba (Cordova)  in Spain in 852. Usuardus * refers to him as Saint Emilianus, Deacon , who is also called Emilias . The Bollandists * (Sept. V. 103) point out that his name is actually Emila or Emilas , and list him on September 17. The Roman Martyrology * mentions him twice (June 7 and September 15 ), the first time in the company of  Saint Peter, Priest and Martyr   and four others , and the second time with Deacon Saint Emilias , (where he is called Jeremias).   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JUNE Saints celebrated on the 7th of June MIGUEL RUIZ, RELIGIOUS A page of one of Fortunatus Hueber's Saints' books, "Stammenbuch..." (1693) Miguel Ruiz (Michael) was a Spanish Dominican, initially at Segovia, then at various houses in the Philippines.  He had learned the vernacular of these islands so well that he not only wrote various devotional books in it, but also compiled a grammar and a dictionary of the same. Through this, but above all through his apostolic work, which he combined with constant works of penance and prayer, he did a great deal for the establishment of the Good News of Jesus Christ in these regions.  His death occurred in A.D. 1630, it was supposed, of poison inflicted on him by a person whose sinful lifestyle he had admonished .   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JUNE Saints celebrated on the 7th of June SAINT DEOCHAR, ABBOT OF HERRIEDEN Saint Deochar (Deocarus, Deocharus, Gottlieb) was first abbot of Herrieden, formerly Hasenried (Hasenrietanum), in the diocese of Eichstätt. He initially lived as a hermit in this place, which was still completely uninhabited and wild (vastus et desertus) , and was held in such great esteem by Charlemagne that this famous emperor built him a little church (Gottlieb's chapel) in honour of the Blessed Virgin, and later also a sizeable monastery, of which he appointed Deochar abbot.  The monastery, which was founded according to the  Rule of Saint Benedict, originally received name Herrenried because the monks (called Herren [gentlemen]) made the area (the Ried , the barren, swampy area) arable.  Around the year 888, under Bishop Eichenbald of Eichstätt, this institute was converted into a monastery of canons.
