SAINT EPHREM, DEACON AND DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH ⬅️ Doctors of the Church - Complete List Born about 306 in Nisibis, Turkey, Saint Ephrem was ordained deacon and given charge of a school of theology which later moved to Edessa. He lived an ascetic life; he taught, preached, and wrote extensively. His hymns and sermons survive and are still an inspiration. PRAYER: Lord, in your love fill our hearts with the Holy Spirit, who inspired the deacon Ephrem to sing the praise of your mysteries and gave him strength to serve you alone. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
