The Roman Martyrology * mentions just  Bonus, Faustus and Maurus by name, adding that nine others suffered with them.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MAY Saints celebrated on the 23rd of May SAINT EPICTITUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS In Spain, Saint Epictitus , Aptonus, Basil  (Basilius) and another Aptonus lost their lives for the sake of the Christian faith. According to some, the martyr Basil was the bishop of Braga in Portugal at the time, and Epictitus held this position in Tuy in Gallicia ( Gallaecia) .   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MAY Saints celebrated on the 30th of May SAINTS BASIL AND EMMELIA  Today, we also commemorate Saints Basil and Emmelia. The Roman Martyrology states:  "At Caesarea, in Cappadocia, the Saints Basil and his wife Emmelia, parents of Saint Basil the Great, who lived in exile in the fastnesses of Pontus during the reign of Galerius Maximian, and after the persecution rested in peace, leaving their children the heirs of their virtues." PRAYER: Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saints Basil and Emmelia may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. SAINT FEAST DAY 2 JANUARY: ST BASIL AND ST GREGORY

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY Saints celebrated on the 2nd of January WELCOME! SAINT BASIL THE GREAT AND SAINT GREGORY NAZIANZEN Saint Basil and Saint Gregory were life-long friends. SAINT BASIL  Basil was born at Caesarea in Cappadocia about A.D. 330. His family was Christian. He was a brilliant student, but for some years followed a monastic way of life. In 370 he was appointed Bishop of Caesarea. His monastic rules are still followed today by monks of the Eastern Church. He actively fought against the Arian heresy; he defended the poor, and did much to help them. He died January 1, 379. SAINT GREGORY Gregory was born near Nazianzus, also in Cappadocia, and also about A.D. 330. He, too, followed the monastic way of life for some years. He was ordained priest, and became Bishop of Constantinople in 379, when the Arian controversy was at its height. He was forced to retire to Nazianzus, where he died on January 25, 389, or 390.
