BLESSED PAULA GAMBARA COSTA, WIDOW Blessed Paula Gambara Costa, of the Third Order of  Saint Francis of Assisi , was a noble but humble and penitent woman from Brescia, who gladly forgave for Christ's sake even her servants' mockery and contempt. She supported the poor, afflicted and needy of every kind with self-sacrifice and by performing the meanest services for them, so that her husband, Count Ludwig von Costa, became peevish about it. However, she did not neglected anything of her job as a housewife.  Following her husband's death his pious widow was even more keen to contemplate the suffering of Jesus, to exercise great austerity, and to venerate the mother of Jesus and all Christians with childlike love and devotion. SAINT PASTOR AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS - 29 MARCH

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH Saints celebrated on the 29th of March WELCOME! SAINT PASTOR AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS (S.S. Pastor et Soc. M.M.) The name Pastor , in English Shepherd , reminiscent of the good Shepherd Jesus Christ, was in ancient times often given to the newly baptised, and especially to priests and bishops.  The relics of Saint Pastor, martyr in Nicomedia about the year 303, were venerated at the Franciscan church at Bologna. With him suffered Victorinus (Victor), Saturnin (Saturninus), Dola, Juliana (Julianus) and four unnamed companions. The first two of these holy martyrs are also mentioned in the Roman Martyrology *. Saint Pastor and his companions are also commemorated on January 12, 27, 28, and March 30  (III. 769). SAINT EUSTATHIUS, BISHOP OF CIO - 29 MARCH

SAINT EUSTATHIUS, BISHOP OF CIO Saint Eustathius, a confessor and bishop of Cio, a town in Bithynia (now Ghio, Ghemblic), was first a simple monk, then became priest and finally bishop, as which he distinguished himself by holy zeal against the teachers of falsities. He had to suffer a lot from those heretics. In the end he had to go into exile. He also died there . STEPHEN II., POPE  ⬅️ Saintly Popes - Index On the death of Zachary, a certain priest Stephen was unanimously elected to succeed him (A.D. 752); but on the third day after his election, whilst transacting some domestic affairs, he was struck with apoplexy, and expired on the next day.  As he died before his consecration, earlier writers do not appear to have included him in the list of the popes; but, in accordance with the long standing practice of the Roman Church, he is now generally counted among them.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH Saints celebrated on the 29th of March WELCOME! SAINT LUDOLPH, BISHOP AND MARTYR  Saint Ludolph was the eighth bishop of Ratzeburg, the first of that name. He is called a martyr because he patiently endured persecution, shame and banishment for the expansion and freedom of the Church.  HE WAS EXILED Elected in 1236, he also lived as a bishop like a religious, having previously belonged to the Premonstratensian order. He had constant struggles with Duke Albert (Albrecht) until he was exiled to Wismar, where Duke Johann, known as the theologian, admitted him.  HIS HOLY DEATH His death took place in 1250. In the fourteenth century he was canonised. ST BERTHOLD OF MOUNT CARMEL - 29 MARCH

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH Saints celebrated on the 29th of March WELCOME! SAINT BERTHOLD OF MOUNT CARMEL Saint Berthold [of Calabria, St Berthold of Mount Carmel] is commemorated on March 29. His name is derived from the Old German words Bert, Bercht, Brecht, meaning brilliant ; according to Schwenck his name means brilliant and mild.  THE FIRST PRIOR GENERAL OF THE CARMELITES St Berthold was first prior general of the Carmelites. He was born in Limoges and was either the brother of Bishop Adamatus in Puy or of the patriarch Heimericus of Antioch, who appointed him prior of the Carmelites in 1121 (according to others 1141 or even 1181).  HIS HAPPY DEATH He died in 1188, and his name is inserted in the general Roman Martyrology, and in that for the Discalced Carmelites. He sanctified himself by humility, continual prayer, watching, and fasting; was the spiritual father of six hundred monks, and of many holy bishops and saints, and died in 625.
