  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 30th of August WELCOME! SAINT IRENAEUS AND COMPANIONS (SS. Irenaeus, Or et Orepsis, MM.) Saints Irenaeus, Or, and  Orepsis (August 30) were martyrs. They feature in various Greek saints' registers and are stated to have suffered a variety of torments and afterwards obtained the palm of martyrdom by the sword in the days of the pagan emperors. On August 22 (IV. 490) the Bollandists * list them among the Praetermissi , noting that the Greek Meneae mention these holy men on August 22. Migne *, too, places them on that date.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JULY Saints celebrated on the 3rd of July WELCOME! SAINTS IRENAEUS AND MUSTIOLA, MARTYRS Today, we also commemorate Saint Irenaeus and Mustiola. The Roman Martyrology states:  "At Chiusi, in Tuscany, in the reign of the emperor Trajan, the holy martyrs Irenaeus, deacon, and Mustiola, a matron, who were subjected to various atrocious tortures and merited the crown of martyrdom." PRAYER: Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saints Irenaeus and Mustiola may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Their splendour shows us Your greatness, which infinitely surpasses that of all creation. In Your loving providence, You saw fit to send Your Angels to watch over us. Grant that we may always be under their protection and one day enjoy their company in heaven. Heavenly Father, You are glorified in Your Saints, for their glory is the crowning of Your gifts. You provide an example for us by their lives on earth, You give us their friendship by our communion with them, You grant us strength and protection through their prayer for the Church, and You spur us on to victory over evil and the prize of eternal glory by this great company of witnesses.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH Saints celebrated on the 24th of March WELCOME! SAINT IRENAEUS, BISHOP OF SIRMIUM, MARTYR  (A.D. 304.) Saint Irenaeus, bishop of Sirmium, capital of part of Pannonia, (now Sirmisch, a village in Hungary, twenty-two leagues from Buda to the South,) in the persecution of Diocletian was apprehended and conducted before Probus, the governor of Pannonia, who said to him:  THE DIALOGUE “The divine laws oblige all men to sacrifice to the gods.” Irenaeus answered: “Into hell fire shall he be thrown, whoever shall sacrifice to the gods.” PROBUS - “The edicts of the most clement emperors ordain that all sacrifice to the gods, or suffer according to law.” IRENAEUS - “But the law of my God commands me rather to suffer all torments than to sacrifice to the gods.” PROBUS - “Either sacrifice, or I will put you to the torture.” IRENAEUS - “You cannot do me a greater pleasure; for by that means you will make me partake of the sufferings of my Saviour.”...

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JUNE Saints celebrated on the 28th of June WELCOME! SAINT IRENAEUS, BISHOP AND MARTYR Born at Smyrna about 130, Saint Irenaeus was a disciple of St Polycarp and became bishop of Smyrna. He was a priest at Lyons in France at the time of the persecution there, and became bishop of the city when the previous bishop was martyred. He is known as a theologian, a powerful defender of the faith against the heresy of the Gnostics. He is thought to have been martyred about 200.  📷 1. St Irenaeus, 2.
