JON RAUDE, ARCHBISHOP OF NIDAROS - 21 DECEMBER

JON RAUDE, ARCHBISHOP OF NIDAROS Jon Raude "the Steadfast" (Jón Raudi) became Archbishop of Nidaros in October 1267. He first appears in literary sources in 1253 as a canon in the cathedral chapter of Nidaros. He visited Rome in 1266, when he was tasked by Pope Clement IV with delivering the pallium to the recently appointed Archbishop Hakon of Nidaros. Hakon died just a year later, and the chapter elected Raude to succeed him. The Pope consented, and Raude was consecrated on December 21, 1268 in Viterbo. Upon his accession to the Archbishopric, Raude was confronted with King Magnus VI's attempts to unify the Norwegian law code, which the King intended to apply to the entire realm. Magnus had secured the approval of his law codes by the ruling councils (Things), but the Archbishop of Nidaros opposed it, because only the church itself can regulate church law.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER Saints celebrated on the 21st of December WELCOME! PAULA OF FOLIGNO, VIRGIN Paula, who was born in Foligno, died in A.D. 1485 at Aquila in the Abruzzi. This Poor Clare nun had been converted by Saint John of Capistrano . During her lifetime she acquired a reputation for holiness and miraculous gifts. Paula is also remembered on December 16 . HINCMAR, ARCHBISHOP OF REIMS - 21 DECEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER Saints celebrated on the 21st of December WELCOME! HINCMAR, ARCHBISHOP OF REIMS The name Hincmar (Hincmarus) is derived from the old German inc, enc, meaning servant, son , and mar, denoting  glory ; therefore it means " son of fame." This famous man, whose name is also variously spelled Ingumar, Ingmar and Igmar [Hinkmar], descended from a noble West Frankish family. He was born around the year 806. His place of birth is unknown, but it is certain that he received a very thorough education at the monastery of Saint Denis near Paris under Abbot Hilduin, whom he held in great esteem. When Abbot Hilduin was exiled in 830 because of his participation in the unrest that had broken out against King Louis, Hincmar voluntarily accompanied him into exile in Saxony. SAINT PETER CANISIUS, PRIEST AND DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH ⬅️ Doctors of the Church - Complete List One of the most important Jesuits of the 17th century, Pieter Kanis did much to revitalise the Church in the German-speaking borderlands that came under the influence of Protestant ideas. DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH A Doctor of the Church, Saint Peter Canisius served in the Society of Jesus at a time when it was credited with saving the Catholic faith in much of Germany, Switzerland, Bohemia and Moravia. UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF PETER FABER Born in the Habsburg-controlled Netherlands in 1521 (the region would become part of the Dutch Republic in 1549), he lost his mother very early and his father, a wealthy magistrate, sent him to study at the University of Cologne. There he came under the influence of Peter Faber, one of the founders of the Society of Jesus, and Canisius became the first Dutchman to join the order. T
