  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN SEPTEMBER Saints celebrated on the 7th of September WELCOME! SAINT GRATUS, BISHOP OF AOSTA Saint Gratus (Gradus), Bishop, is commemorated on September 7 . In the French language he is known as Saint Gras . A contemporary of the holy  Pope Leo the Great , he served as Bishop of Aosta ( Augusta Praetoria ) in Piedmont. According to the  Bollandists * ( Feb. I, 98 ), he lived in the 5th century, whereas Migne * places him in the 9th century. He is invoked for protection against moles. According to the  Bollandists  ( June IV, 761 ), his biography is full of legends. Migne* dates his death to the year 810. SAINT AUGUSTALIS, BISHOP OF ARLES Saint Augustalis, commemorated on September 7, was a Bishop of Arles in France who lived between the 3rd century and the middle of the 4th. He is to be clearly distinguished from the later Bishop Augustalis , who attended the Council of Orange. The  Roman Martyrology * states simply, under September 7, that he is venerated in Gaul - without specifying his episcopal see. This is likely because the martyrology's author, Baronius* , accidentally mixed up these two bishops. Therefore he could not possibly assign this see to our saint, given that during the latter's lifetime , a certain Hilarius signed the acts of that council as Bishop of Arles.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN SEPTEMBER Saints celebrated on the 7th of September WELCOME! SAINT GAUZLIN, BISHOP OF TOUL Saint Gauzlin ( Gauzlinus ), also known as Goslinus and Gozlinus (French: St-Gauzelin ) - was Bishop of Toul and lived in the 10th century. He was the successor to Drogo, who died in the year 918. His diocese had suffered greatly from the devastating incursions of the Normans (Danes), and he therefore strove to remedy the damage that had been caused. In these endeavours, he was vigorously supported by the Emperors Henry I and Otto I (the Great). Contemporaries speak of him with high praise. They say he was worthy of all admiration for his practice of Christian works of charity; that the church and the monastery of  Saint Mansuetus  (the first Bishop of Toul) owed their renewal to him; and that he was tirelessly active while remaining extremely prudent and wise.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN SEPTEMBER Saints celebrated on the 7th of September WELCOME! VENERABLE THEODORIC, BISHOP OF METZ Venerable Theodoric I. (Deodericus),  Bishop and Confessor, is remembered on September 7, and also on February 3, and July 18. The first Bishop of Metz of this name, Theodoric was formerly Archdeacon in Trier ( Treves ), and a Saxon by birth ( ex pago Saxoniae Hamalant oriundus ). He mounted the episcopal chair in 961 and governed his diocese with great prudence and piety for 20 years. The reform of the monasteries was one particular task he dedicated himself to, and he also played a very significant role in the political history of his time. ( cf. Pertz, mon. scr. IV. 461-483 .) He is described in the chronicles as a nephew of Emperor Otto I and also accompanied him to Italy in 970, from where he brought many relics for his episcopal church, including those of  Saint Vincent , and of Saint Protus and Saint Hyacinth . BLESSED JOHN DUCKETT, PRIEST AND MARTYR  John Duckett was the third son of James Duckett, (by his wife Mrs Frances Girlington) a gentleman of an ancient family, but small estate. He was born at Underwinder, in the parish of Sedbergh in Yorkshire, anno 1613. He performed his studies in the English college of Douay and received all his orders there, being made priest in September, 1639.  Colleges at the University of Douai, 16th century   After he was ordained, he went to Paris, in company of Mr Francis Gage (afterwards Doctor of Sorbon, and president of Douay college) and there remained three years in the college of Arras.
