BLESSED BENINCASA OF MONTEPULCIANO, CONFESSOR Blessed John Benincasa of Montepulciano was a 15th century saint of the Servite Order who lived a life of penance and prayer, as a hermit, in a cell in the hilly country near Siena, where he died A.D. 1426. Text from The Book of Saints, 1913, by the Monks of Ramsgate Blessed Benincasa, (May 9, June 20), was of the Order of the Servites from Monte Chieli in Etruria. He was born in Florence in 1376. In the vicinity of this city he dwelt in a solitary cell, in which he served God in holiness, and died in 1426. After his death he was found in a praying position, as if he were alive, and buried in the said monastery of Monte Chieli. In the Roman Martyrology of the Servites his name occurs on June 20.
