EUSTOCHIUM, WIDOW OF ROME - 7 OCTOBER

(1693) Eustochium, a noble Roman lady, was wedded to a nobleman of Cartana, whom she had married at an early age.  The fiery sermons of the blessed Father Matthew of Agrigento moved her to renounce the world. In her eighteenth year she took the habit of the Third Order, in which she excelled in vigil, fasting, and diligent church attendance. She went to the hospitals, ministered to the sick with great love and gave them plentiful alms, although she had to put up with bitter reproaches and persecutions from her worldly husband, which she endured with the greatest patience for the love of God.  Because she lived in a childless marriage for a long time, she asked God through the Queen of Heaven for a daughter and vowed to dedicate her to the service of God in a nunnery. SAINT EUSTERIUS, BISHOP OF SALERNO - 19 OCTOBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN OCTOBER Saints celebrated on the 19th of October WELCOME! SAINT EUSTERIUS, BISHOP OF SALERNO Saint Eusterius was the fourth bishop of Salerno, but his acts [the biography] have been lost, so nothing can be said of him except that he lived towards the middle of the fifth century and, after his death, was interred in the crypt of the cathedral there. EUSTELLA, VIRGIN AND MARTYR - 30 APRIL

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL Saints celebrated on the 30th of April WELCOME! EUSTELLA, VIRGIN AND MARTYR Eustella, a virgin and a king's daughter, is said to have been converted at Saintes in France by Saint Eutropius , the first bishop of this city. She is probably identical with Eustella, who mentioned by Artur * on  May 21 as a prince's daughter and martyr of Saintogne. According to Migne *, where she is also called Estella, she facilitated that Saint Eutropius, after his martyrdom, was given an honourable burial. By this act she outed herself and was publicly recognised as a Christian.  Her father was fuming about this and wanted to bring her back to paganism with all his might; but since he was not able to do this, he handed her over to the persecutors, who after much torment killed her. EUSTECHIA, VIRGIN Eustechia was a virgin at the monastery of Saint  Prosdocimus in Padua (apud Patavinos), where she blossomed like a rose among thorns. She was, however, constantly plagued by evil spiritual enemies. Through constant penances she conquered all temptations and thus made it to a happy end, which took place in A.D. 1469 . SAINT STEPHEN AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS According to the Martyrology of  Saint Jerome *, Saint Stephen (Stephanus), Leontius, Mauritius, Domnus, Milito, Achilles, Danihel (Daniel), Diomedes, Cyricius, Antonius, Jason, John (Johannes), Lisinnius, Eustasius, Octavius, Emilianus, Avitetus, Theodolus, Cessius, Candidus, Gorgonius, Archelaus, Cirinus, Aphrodisius, Gogianus, Clericus, another Antonius, Gagius, Auxentius, Valentinus, Flavius,  Eutychius , Niacon, Theodotus, Faustasius, Aurelius, Gordianus, Cirion, Cyril (Cyrillus), Castricius, Sanctychius, Majolus and Silvius were killed for the Christian faith. Nothing more is known about them, which is why their names are  not included in the newer version of the Roman Martyrology *. SAINT LEONTIUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS (Saint Leontius and 35 Companions, Martyrs) According to the Martyrology of  Saint Jerome *, Saints Leontius, Mauricius, Mellitus, Achilles, Daniel, Corionus, Attonus, Besonus, Eustasius, Octavius, Anicetus, Theodore, Cristus, Candidus, Gorgonius, Arcelaus, Cyrinus, Euphrodosius, Gelanus (Gilanus), Auticius, Azelus, Attenus, Gagius, Sision , Auxentius, Valentine, Droditius, Faustasius, Aurelius, Gorgodianus, Cyrion, Corolus, Nostinus, Sisinnius, Castricius and Apollonius were martyrs at Alexandria.  Various sources, however, vary greatly with regard to the names. In the Roman Martyrology *, these names do not feature at all on July 10, but Saints Leontius, Mauritius and Daniel and Companions are listed instead. They were martyred in various ways at Nicopolis in Armenia under the Emperor Licinius and the Praeses Lysias, and finally thrown into the fire, where they died
