ST LEONTIUS, BISHOP OF FRÉJUS - 1 DECEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER Saints celebrated on the 1st of December WELCOME! SAINT LEONTIUS, BISHOP OF FRÉJUS Leontius, Bishop of Fréjus  (Forojulium) in Provence, born at Nimes in Languedoc, was a brother of Bishop St Castor of Apt , whose memory the church celebrates on September 21. As bishop of Fréjus Leontius set an example of the loftiest virtues. It was he who ordained the hermit  Saint Honoratus a priest and who persuaded him to settle in his diocese, namely on the island of Lérins . There Honoratus built the famous monastery , which he presided over until he was appointed Bishop of Arles.  St Leontius was also one of the Gallic bishops with whom Popes Boniface I and Celestine I corresponded on important church matters. He died around the year 432 and is venerated on this day in the dioceses of Fréjus and Apt. He has often been confused with  Leontius of Arles   and other bishops of that name.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JULY Saints celebrated on the 11th of July WELCOME! SAINT STEPHEN AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS According to the Martyrology of  Saint Jerome *, Saint Stephen (Stephanus), Leontius, Mauritius, Domnus, Milito, Achilles, Danihel (Daniel), Diomedes, Cyricius, Antonius, Jason, John (Johannes), Lisinnius, Eustasius, Octavius, Emilianus, Avitetus, Theodolus, Cessius, Candidus, Gorgonius, Archelaus, Cirinus, Aphrodisius, Gogianus, Clericus, another Antonius, Gagius, Auxentius, Valentinus, Flavius,  Eutychius , Niacon, Theodotus, Faustasius, Aurelius, Gordianus, Cirion, Cyril (Cyrillus), Castricius, Sanctychius, Majolus and Silvius were killed for the Christian faith. Nothing more is known about them, which is why their names are  not included in the newer version of the Roman Martyrology *.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JULY Saints celebrated on the 10th of July WELCOME! SAINT LEONTIUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS (Saint Leontius and 35 Companions, Martyrs) According to the Martyrology of  Saint Jerome *, Saints Leontius, Mauricius, Mellitus, Achilles, Daniel, Corionus, Attonus, Besonus, Eustasius, Octavius, Anicetus, Theodore, Cristus, Candidus, Gorgonius, Arcelaus, Cyrinus, Euphrodosius, Gelanus (Gilanus), Auticius, Azelus, Attenus, Gagius, Sision , Auxentius, Valentine, Droditius, Faustasius, Aurelius, Gorgodianus, Cyrion, Corolus, Nostinus, Sisinnius, Castricius and Apollonius were martyrs at Alexandria.  Various sources, however, vary greatly with regard to the names. In the Roman Martyrology *, these names do not feature at all on July 10, but Saints Leontius, Mauritius and Daniel and Companions are listed instead.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 1st of August SAINT LEONTIUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS Today, we also commemorate Saint Leontius and Companions. The Roman Martyrology states:  "At Pergen, in Pamphylia, the holy martyrs Leontius, Attius, Alexander, and six husbandmen, who were beheaded in the persecution of Diocletian, under the governor Flavian." PRAYER: Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saints Leontius, Attius, Alexander, and Companions may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JULY Saints celebrated on the 10th of July SAINT LEONTIUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS Today, we also commemorate Saint Leontius and Companions. The Roman Martyrology states:  "At Nicopolis, in Armenia, the holy martyrs Leontius, Mauritius, Daniel, and their companions, who after being tortured in different manners, were finally cast into the fire, and thus terminated their long martyrdom, in the time of the emperor Licinius and the governor Lysias." PRAYER: Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saints Leontius, Mauritius, Daniel, and Companions may increase our devotion and promote our salvation.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JUNE Saints celebrated on the 18th of June WELCOME! SAINT LEONTIUS, MARTYR Today, we also commemorate Saint Leontius. The Roman Martyrology states:  "At Tripoli, in the time of the governor Adrian, Saint Leontius, a soldier, who, through bitter torments, attained to the crown of martyrdom, together with the tribune Hypatius and Theodulus, whom he had converted to Christ." PRAYER: Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saint Leontius may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Roman Martyrology states:  "The same day, during the persecution of Diocletian, the holy martyrs Eusebius, Neon, Leontius, Longinus, and four others, were slain with the sword after enduring great torments." PRAYER: Grant to your Church, we beseech you, O Lord, through the intercession of your holy martyrs Eusebius, Neon, Leontius, Longinus, and Companions, not to think high-mindedly, but to grow in humility pleasing to you; that, despising what is base, she may with unbounded love diligently do whatever is right.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY Saints celebrated on the 13th of January Prayer to the Angels and the Saints Heavenly Father, in praising Your Angels and Saints we praise Your glory, for by honouring them we honour You, their Creator. Their splendour shows us Your greatness, which infinitely surpasses that of all creation. In Your loving providence, You saw fit to send Your Angels to watch over us. ST LEONTIUS, BISHOP OF BORDEAUX - 15 NOVEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER Saints celebrated on the 15th of November   ST LEONTIUS, BISHOP Saint Leontius, also called Leguntius, is - according to Zedler - the 10th Bishop of Bordeaux, the second of this name or the younger (to distinguish him from St Leontius, his ancestor). HE DID ARMED SERVICE IN HIS YOUTH St Leontius was born in Saintes. He came from one of the finest houses in Aquitaine. In his youth he did armed service against the Visigoths in Spain and in Narbonne Gaul.  HE BECAME BISHOP Because of his splendid virtues, the people and clergy of Bordeaux elected him their chief shepherd in 541.  From this time on he looked at his wife Placidina, who could count among her ancestors St Sidonius and the emperor Avitus, no different than at a beloved sister, and Placidina, completely devoted to godliness herself, found her greatest delight in supporting her husband in all good works.  HE BUILT A CHURCH St Leontius used his considerable property to b...
