SAINT AHMED THE CALLIGRAPHER, MARTYR Saint Ahmed [also known as Christodoulos] was raised as a Muslim in 17th-century Constantinople. Calligrapher and copyist in the royal chancery. He lived as an unmarried man, but due to his position at court he had a concubine. This lady was a slave, originally from Russia, and a Christian. HE BEGAN HIS CATECHUMENATE Little by little, she brought him to a desire for the faith, and he began his catechumenate. HE WAS MARTYRED FOR HIS DESIRE TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN Ahmed was arrested, imprisoned without food for a week, and then murdered for his desire to convert.
