Saint Gideon is commemorated on September 1 and September 12 [and September 26 ]. In the Vulgate Bible translation, this saint is called Gedeon , also known as Jerubbaal . One of the judges of Israel, he was the son of Joash, from the tribe of Manasseh in the city of Ophrah, who was called and strengthened by God to redeem the Israelites from the servitude of the Medinans with just a very small army. SAINTS ARCANUS AND AEGIDIUS, HERMITS [They lived in the 10th century.] Saint Arcanus, a native of Arcadia, and Saint Aegidius [Saint Giles], of Spain, were hermits at Borgo-di-San-Sepolcro ( Burgum, S. Sepulchri ) in Umbria, and in a sense the founders of this place.  Both made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem to visit the holy places, and it was probably here that they met and from then onwards journeyed together. Equipped with relics from the Holy Land, they then made a pilgrimage together to Rome to the tombs of the Holy Apostles, in order to also pray in the New Jerusalem.  Afterwards, they continued their travels through the March of Ancona to Venice to visit other holy places in Italy. BL. AGNES OF VENOSA, ABBESS - 1 SEPTEMBER

BLESSED AGNES OF VENOSA, ABBESS Agnes was abbess of the nunnery of San Salvatore in Venosa in Apulia, and, before she entered the monastery, a servant of the world, but who, at the persuasion of  Saint William of Montevergine  converted and took the veil.  Formerly a prostitute who was as beautiful as she was rich, she once overheard a conversation at the court of King Roger of Sicily in which the chastity of the saintly  Abbot William of Montevergine was mocked. Agnes took it upon herself to seduce him with her charms and cause him to fall. For this purpose she actually visited him in the monastery under some pretext. She then proceeded to display all her charms and all her skills of seduction and succeeded in persuading the saint to invite her into his bedchamber. Saint William went in first. ST NIVARDUS, ARCHBISHOP OF REIMS - 1 SEPTEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN SEPTEMBER Saints celebrated on the 1st of September WELCOME! ST NIVARDUS, ARCHBISHOP OF REIMS Nivardus (Nivo), Archbishop of Reims (Rheims), is commemorated on September 1 and February 7. Of noble descent, he was educated at the court of King Clovis II.  Rich in virtues, he succeeded Lando, Archbishop of Reims, around the year 649. With zeal and great prudence he advanced his Church in both temporal and spiritual respects, especially in discipline and piety.  Since the saint nurtured the desire to build a monastery, he received a heavenly vision in his sleep. Thereupon he founded the monastery at Hautvilliers (mon. Altumvillare). He was a bishop who seems to have lived about the middle of the sixth century, and found his resting place in Pisa. ADRIAN IV., POPE - 1 SEPTEMBER

ADRIAN IV., POPE  ⬅️ Saintly Popes - Index (Nicholas Brekespear [Brakespear]) Adrian IV, Pope, was probably born about A.D. 1100; he died September 1, 1159. Very little is known about the birthplace, parentage, or boyhood of Adrian. Yet, as is usual in such cases, very various, and sometimes very circumstantial, accounts have reached us about him.  Our only reliable information we owe to two writers, Cardinal Boso and John of Salisbury. The former wrote a life of Adrian, which is included in the collection of Nicolas Roselli, made Cardinal of Aragon in 1356 during the pontificate of Innocent VI. Boso's life, published by Muratori. It states that Boso, the author of it, was created cardinal-deacon of the title of SS.
