ADELAIDE, RECLUSE - 20 AUGUST

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 20th of August WELCOME! ADELAIDE, RECLUSE Adelaide (Adelheidis) , Virgin and Recluse, is remembered on August 20. Artur du Monstier * lists her on this day with the title "Saint". She was a disciple of Saint Ugebeda, who rendered great service to the restoration of the Order of Hermits (cloisters). She lived for many years as a recluse until she was freed from her double imprisonment, namely that of her body and of the freely chosen confinement of her cell, and instead entered the heavenly freedom of the children of God. GEERT GROOTE, FOUNDER - 20 AUGUST

GEERT GROOTE, FOUNDER The beginning of the Book of the Hours of Geert Groote ¹Gerardus, (August 20), surnamed Magnus, died on this day at Deventer (Daventriae) in the Netherlands. He founded the Brotherhood of Good Will,  whose members lived in community. The Bollandists * list him neither as “blessed” nor as “saint.”  ²Gerard Groote (October 1340 - 20 August 1384), otherwise Gerrit or Gerhard Groet, in Latin Gerardus Magnus, was a Dutch Catholic deacon. Groote and Florence Radewyns, one of his disciples, founded at Zwolle the Brethren of the Common Life. ESME GUÉRIN, MARTYR - 20 AUGUST

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 20th of August VENERABLE ESME GUÉRIN, MARTYR Venerable Esme Guérin was one of the 11 Martyrs of Donzy who were put to death by the Protestants out of hatred of the Catholic faith. PIUS VII., POPE  ⬅️ Saintly Popes - Index Barnaba Chiaramonti was born at Cesena in the Pontifical States, August 14, 1740; elected at Venice March 14, 1800; he died August 20, 1823. His father was Count Scipione Chiaramonti, and his mother, of the noble house of Ghini, was a lady of rare piety who in 1763 entered a convent of Carmelites at Fano. Here she foretold, in her son's hearing, as Pius VII himself later related, his elevation to the papacy and his protracted sufferings.  Barnaba received his early education in the college for nobles at Ravenna. Despite his longing for the solitary contemplative life, he travelled a great deal in France, Germany and Italy, trying to reconcile the divisions in the Church at the time. BL. GEORG HÄFNER, MARTYR - 20 AUGUST

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 20th of August WELCOME! BLESSED GEORG HÄFNER, PRIEST AND MARTYR   Blessed Georg Häfner, born 1900 in Würzburg, Bavaria, Germany, died on August 20, 1942 in the Dachau concentration camp. He was a German Catholic priest and member of the Carmelite Third Order. His beatification took place in 2011.  A MEMBER OF THE CARMELITE THIRD ORDER Blessed Georg was chaplain in Kothen and revealed himself as a persistent opponent of National Socialism while he was pastor of Oberschwarzach from 1934 to 1941. That is why he was sent to Dachau concentration camp in 1941, where he died of starvation and disease.
