PAUL DE PRATO, RELIGIOUS Paul de Prato (Paulus), of the Order of the Friars Minor in Tuscany (Etruria), is listed as "Blessed Paul" by Arthur * and other hagiographers. His godly death seems to have taken place in Bologna (according to Hueber * in A.D. 1241). The Bollandists * mention this holy man among the Praetermissi (II. 373). PAULA, BAPTISTAE MEZAVACHAE, VIRGIN Paula, Baptistae Mezavachae, a companion of Saint Catherine of Bologna , is buried next to her. She is called "blessed" by some hagiographers, the Bollandists *, however, list her among the Praetermissi . This holy lady, after entering the Order in Ferrara, practised every kind of monastic virtue, but especially active, self-sacrificing love for sick, tempted, anxious sisters in need of advice and encouragement, as well as great severity against herself. She also possessed the gift of prophecy and miracles. Paula, who went to her eternal reward in 1492, is also remembered on March 28 (II. 372). Pope Stephen VIII's date of birth is unknown; he died March [15], 931. He became pope either at the end of 928 or at the beginning of 929. Except that he was a Roman, the son of Teudemund, and some time cardinal-priest of St Anastasia, and that when pope he issued certain privileges for monasteries in France and Italy, and was buried in St. Peter's, nothing more is known of him.
