ST MARCELLUS, ABBOT - 29 DECEMBER

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER Saints celebrated on the 29th of December Prayer to the Angels and the Saints Heavenly Father, in praising Your Angels and Saints we praise Your glory, for by honouring them we honour You, their Creator. Their splendour shows us Your greatness, which infinitely surpasses that of all creation. In Your loving providence, You saw fit to send Your Angels to watch over us. Grant that we may always be under their protection and one day enjoy their company in heaven. Heavenly Father, You are glorified in Your Saints, for their glory is the crowning of Your gifts. You provide an example for us by their lives on earth, You give us their friendship by our communion with them, You grant us strength and protection through their prayer for the Church, and You spur us on to victory over evil and the prize of eternal glory by this great company of witnesses. Grant that we who aspire to take part in their joy may be filled with the Spirit that blessed their lives, s

ST DAVID, KING - 29 DECEMBER

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER Saints celebrated on the 29th of December WELCOME! SAINT DAVID, KING In the Bible the name David is borne only by the second king of Israel, the great-grandson of Boaz and Ruth (Ruth 4:18 ff.). He was the youngest of the eight sons of  Jesse (1 Kings 16:8; cf. 1 [Chronicles] 2:13), a small proprietor, of the tribe of Juda, dwelling at Bethlehem, where David was born.  FROM THE SCRIPTURES Our knowledge of David's life and character is derived exclusively from the pages of Sacred Scripture.  According to the usual chronology, David was born in 1085 and reigned from B.C. 1055 to 1015. Recent writers have been induced by Assyrian inscriptions to date his reign from 30 to 50 years later.  THE HISTORY OF DAVID The history of David falls naturally into three periods: - before his elevation to the throne;  - his reign, at Hebron over Juda, and at Jerusalem over all Israel, until his sin;  - his sin and last years.  He first appears in sacred history as

SAINT FEAST DAY 29 DECEMBER: ST THOMAS BECKET

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER Saints celebrated on the 29th of December WELCOME! SAINT THOMAS BECKET, BISHOP AND MARTYR ⬅️ Saintly Archbishops of Canterbury Born in London in 1118, St Thomas, Archbishop of Canterbury, was murdered in his cathedral on December 29, 1170. A deacon when he was appointed chancellor of England, he became a close friend of King Henry II.  AN ABRUPT CONVERSION OF LIFE His ordination as bishop brought an abrupt conversion of life and led him to oppose the king over Church rights. After six years’ refuge in a French monastery, he returned to his diocese, but careless words from the king inspired four knights to assassinate him. Immediately acknowledged as a martyr, he is remembered for his courage in defence of the rights of the Church. PRAYER: O God, who gave the Martyr Saint Thomas Becket the courage to give up his life for the sake of justice, grant, through his intercession, that renouncing our life for the sake of Christ in this world, we may find it
