GERALD OF HAUTJOUG, PRIOR Hautecombe Abbey, France, 1865 albumen print Gerald (Geraldus) , commemorated on April 15, was a Benedictine of Clugny (Cluny) and student of  Blessed Abbot Peter (d. 1156). Gerald eventually became prior of the Hautjoug monastery (Altojugum). This holy man is said to have been glorified through many miracles, which is why Bucelin * and others list him among the "saints." (II . 370.)   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER Saints celebrated on the 5th of December WELCOME! SAINT GERALD, ARCHBISHOP OF BRAGA Braga Cathedral   Descended of noble family in Cahors, Saint Gerald  (Geraldus),  also called  Giraldus, Gerardus  and  Geraudus , was offered by his pious parents as a sacrifice to God before he was even born.  He entered the Congregation of Clugny (Cluny) and soon became very famous for the purity of his life and his musical talents, so much so that  Bishop Bernard of Toledo gave him the position of cantor at his cathedral church.  Saint Gerald was eventually appointed Archbishop of Braga in Portugal. He preached with great zeal and watched over the flock entrusted to him with tender care. He died as the father of the poor at the beginning of the 12th century (according to  Migne * in 1109). SAINT GERALD, BISHOP OF MACON The former Cathedral of Vieux Saint-Vincent at Mâcon Saint Gerald (Geraldus) , also called Gerardus , Giraldus, Girardus , French St-Giraud - is listed as the 26th Bishop of Macon (Mâcon) (Matisco). According to the Proprium of Autun (Ecclesiae Aeduensis) he was born in Belgium. Like most bishops of that time, he was most likely of noble origin. His ordination took place in 886, probably in Chalons. He attended several synods that were held from then until 926.  Bishop Ledbaldus (Leubold, Letbald) features from 926 onwards, Saint Gerald having returned to solitude to prepare for a holy death. Some sources state erroneously that the holy Bishop retired to Clugny (Cluny); however, he is documented as having spent the remainder of his earthly pilgrimage in the area of ​​Brou in Burgundy. SAINT GERALD OF MAYO, BISHOP   Saint Gerald was an Englishman, who, passing into Ireland, became a monk in the abbey of Megeo, or Mayo, founded by Colman of Lindisfarne , for the English.  THE NEW ABBEY Gerald was advanced successively to the dignity of abbot and bishop, and founded the abbey of Elytheria , or Tempul-Gerald in Connaught, that of Teagh-na-Saxon , and a nunnery which he put under the care of his sister Segretia.  HIS HOLY DEATH He departed to our Lord in 732, and was buried at Mayo, where a church dedicated to God under his patronage remains to this day.
