SAINT FAUSTUS, BISHOP OF TARBES Saint Faustus, who is commemorated on September 28, was Bishop of Tarbes¹ ( Castrum Bigorrense, Tarba ) in Gascony. Because of his faithful service in his office, he was exiled for some time, but was later allowed to resume his episcopal see. Saint Licerius [Lizier] , later Bishop of  Conserans   ( Conseranum ) in Gascony, was one of his disciples. Saint Faustus may have died toward the end of the fifth century. (VII. 715). SAINT ANNEMUND, BISHOP OF LYON Saint Annemund (Anemundus, Aonemundus, Aunemundus, Cannemundus, Unemundus, Munemundus, Ennemundus, Enemundus) , also called Dalfinus or Dalvinus (by his family name), the son of the royal prefect Sigo and his wife Petronia, was brought up at the court of the Frankish king Dagobert I (d. 638) and his son Clovis II (d. 656). His biography states that he was a Roman by birth. This is not to be taken literally, but rather as an indication that his ancestors were descended from Rome.  King Clovis II held Annemund in the highest esteem for his rare virtues, and chose him as godfather to his elder son, Clothar III, who ascended the royal throne after the death of his father.  At a later stage Annemund was chosen to head the episcopal see of Lyon (Lyons). SAINT ALODIUS, BISHOP OF AUXERRE Saint Alodius (Alodus, Elodus), commemorated on September 28, was bishop of Auxerre in Burgundy and first abbot of the monastery of  Saint Germanus in this city, but was elevated to the episcopal see there after the latter's death. He flourished in the second half of the fifth century and ruled the church of Auxerre for thirty years.   WELCOME! LAWRENCE, RELIGIOUS Lawrence (Laurentius), a Cistercian monk at the Abbey of Dünen ( Dunae , French: Dunes) in Flanders, had a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin and was a man of great piety and many merits.  Henriquez * and Bucelin * list him as “blessed.” He died in 1261. However, there is no evidence that he was ever venerated by the church; for this reason the Bollandists * list Lawrence among the Praetermissi (VII. 597). SAINT LIOBA, ABBESS   This saint was a great model of Christian perfection to the church, both of England, her native country, and of Germany.  She was descended of an illustrious English-Saxon family, and born among the West-Saxons at Winburn, which name signifies fountain of wine.  Ebba, her pious mother, was nearly related to St Boniface of Mainz, and though she had been long barren, and had no prospect of other issue, when Lioba was born, she offered her to God from her birth, and trained her up in a contempt of the world.  By her direction our saint was placed young in the great monastery of Winburn in Dorsetshire, under the care of the holy abbess Tetta, a person still more eminent for her extraordinary prudence and sanctity, than for being sister to a king.  Lioba made great progress in virtue, and took the religious veil.
