BLESSED MARIA LUIGIA VELOTTI, VIRGIN AND FOUNDRESS Blessed Maria Luigia Velotti, born on November 16, 1826, was orphaned as a toddler, taken in by a maiden aunt who ultimately became abusive, and later adopted by a childless neighbours' couple who encouraged her in her pursuit of holiness. As an adult, she took vows as a Third Order  Franciscan , taking the religious name Maria Luigia del Santissimo Sacramento . Blessed Maria had many mystical experiences, as well as great suffering at the hand of demons. Though she was nearly illiterate, Blessed Maria possessed great wisdom. SAINT BROCARD, GENERAL OF THE CARMELITE ORDER Saint Brocard ( Brocardus ), commemorated on September 2, the second General of the Carmelite Order, was a native of Jerusalem and succeeded Blessed Berthold in the leadership of the Order. He requested a rule for the Order from the Blessed Patriarch Albert of Jerusalem - receiving it around the year 1214 (erroneously dated in Migne* 1229) - and died around the year 1221. His name also appears on September 2 in the Roman Martyrology for both the Calced and Discalced Carmelites. ST AGRICOLA, BISHOP OF AVIGNON - 2 SEPTEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN SEPTEMBER Saints celebrated on the 2nd of September WELCOME! SAINT AGRICOLA, BISHOP OF AVIGNON The name Agricola (Agricolus, Agricol) is derived from the Latin: "Tiller of the soil," "Farmer." Saint Agricola was born in Avignon in the year 630; his father was Saint Magnus - who later became the bishop of that city - and his mother was Gandaltruda (or Austadlala ). In his childhood, Saint Agricola was entrusted for his education to the fathers of the renowned monastery of Lérins; there, as he grew into a young man, he gave such extraordinary proofs of holiness and virtue that he already commanded the admiration of all. After spending sixteen years in monastic solitude - "as a zealous cultivator of his heart" (agrum cordis strenuus Agricola perpetuo excolens) - he was made Archdeacon of the Church of Avignon (against his will). SAINT ORONTIUS, BISHOP Saint Orontius ( Oronius ), first bishop of Carpentras (Carpentoracte Meminorum), nicknamed Modestus, is said to have flourished around the year 445. SAINT OCTAVIAN, HERMIT - 2 SEPTEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN SEPTEMBER Saints celebrated on the 2nd of September WELCOME! SAINT OCTAVIAN, HERMIT Saint Octavian (Octavianus) flourished in the sixth century. He is said to have been an African by birth, and to have lived as a hermit in Tuscany. Together with  Bishop Regulus he came to the region of Volaterra, and spent the rest of his life in the hollow of an elm tree, which he used as his dwelling. His remains rest in the Cathedral of Volaterra, the city of which he is the patron. Saint Octavian is also commemorated on September 3. MICHAEL ALPHONSUS SHEN FUZONG, JESUIT - 2 SEPTEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN SEPTEMBER Saints celebrated on the 2nd of September WELCOME! MICHAEL ALPHONSUS SHEN FUZONG, JESUIT  Michael Alphonsus Shen Fuzong - or Fu-Tsung - was born c. 1658 in Nanking of Chinese parents  who converted to Christianity. [Apparently, he spoke Latin fluently.]  HIS TRIP TO EUROPE He travelled to Europe with a Flemish  Jesuit , Fr Philippe Couplet, leaving Macao in December 1681 and reaching Paris in 1684. There they had an audience with Louis XIV at Versailles. They went on to Rome in 1685 and had an audience with Pope Innocent XI . Shen arrived in England in March 1687 and soon became a well-known figure at James II's court. THE PORTRAIT The king commissioned Shen's portrait from Godfrey Kneller shortly after his arrival. He is depicted in Chinese robes, holding a crucifix and looking towards the window as the light illuminates his face, suggesting divine inspiration. The naval surgeon, James Yonge, saw Shen at Windsor in July 1687...

Prayer to the Angels and the Saints Heavenly Father, in praising Your Angels and Saints we praise Your glory, for by honouring them we honour You, their Creator. Their splendour shows us Your greatness, which infinitely surpasses that of all creation. In Your loving providence, You saw fit to send Your Angels to watch over us.
