  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY Saints celebrated on the 24th of January WELCOME! GUILLAUME BRIÇONNET, BISHOP OF MEAUX Guillaume [William Briconnet], born in Tours in 1472, was a son of Cardinal Briçonnet, and before entering the ecclesiastical state was known as the Count de Montbrun. In 1489 he was named Bishop of Lodeve. Distinguished by remarkable judgment, great learning, and a love of study, he received from Louis XII several preferments, and was named as chaplain to the Queen. In 1507 he succeeded  his father as Abbot of Saint-Germain-des-Pres.  The king entrusted him with delicate and difficult missions, and sent him, the same year that Guillaume became abbot, to Rome as extraordinary ambassador for the purpose of justifying the conduct of his prince against the accusations of the Emperor Maximilian.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN OCTOBER Saints celebrated on the 28th of October WELCOME! SAINT FARO, BISHOP OF MEAUX Saint Faro  was the son of Agneric, one of the first court officials of King Theodobert II of Austrasia. Saint Cagnoald, who became a monk at Luxeuil under Saint Columban, Saint Fara or Burgundofara, and Saint Agentrud were his siblings. He spent his youth at the court of Theodobert and, after the death of this prince and his brother and successor Theodoric in 613, Faro came to the court of Clotaire II. Although he steered clear of the many dangers at court, he still wanted to serve the Lord more undividedly. After a conversation with his sister Fara about this subject, he decided, with the consent of his wife Blidechilda, to leave the world, its honours, vanities and goods. The latter took the veil, retired to one of her country estates, and died after just a few years with a reputation for sainthood. Faro went to Meaux (Meldae) and joined the clergy. Before long,...

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 31st of August WELCOME! SAINT EBRAISILUS, BISHOP OF MEAUX Saint Stephen's Cathedral, Meaux. Msgr Marbeau, Bishop , blessing the crowd (1913-1920) Saint Ebraisilus (Ebrigisilus), commemorated on August 31, lived towards the end of the 7th or beginning of the 8th century and was bishop of Meaux. As such, he was characterized by incessant activity, earnestness and abundant love. He died in the monastery of Jotrum , which was headed by his sister Aquilberta. In 1620 an elevation of his relics took place, conducted by the bishop of Nantes, and in 1658 several of his bones were taken to the episcopal church of Meaux, where they are venerated.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN FEBRUARY Saints celebrated on the 13th of February WELCOME! SAINT GILBERT, BISHOP OF MEAUX Saint Gilbert (Gilbertus, Gislebertus, [Aegilbertus])  was born in Ham on the Somme, in the Vermandois area, France. As a boy, around the middle of the 10th century, he was admitted to the renowned school of canons of Saint Quentin. After some time, he joined those canons, and was made an archdeacon of Meaux.  By joint election of the clergy and people, he became Bishop Erchenrad's successor after the latter's death. Gilbert is known to have started many pious foundations. He also overhauled the administration of the cathedral chapter's goods. For twenty years he graced the episcopal see of Meaux with virtues and miracles.  According to the Bollandists * Gilbert went to his eternal reward in 1004, Migne* reckons that his death occurred five years later. EMMANUEL MARBEAU, BISHOP OF MEAUX After the Melun railway disaster of November 4, 1913, Monsignor Marbeau was seen on the scene comforting people and blessing the corpses of the deceased  Emmanuel-Jules-Marie Marbeau was born November 12, 1844, in Paris, France, into a family of industrialists. He studied law before entering the seminary. On June 3, 1871, he was ordained priest for the diocese of Paris. He ministered to the faithful at Saint-Germain de Charonne, Saint-Roch , from October 1871, and at Saint-Pierre de Chaillot from January 1885. Appointed parish priest of Saint-Honoré d'Eylau in February 1889, he was known for his support of charitable organisations. On January 19, 1901, he was named honorary canon of Paris. He devoted himself to publishing a missal for the faithful, which was then reissued several times, and he translated from Latin the Catechism of the Council of Trent. The good bis...

SAINT FARO, BISHOP OF MEAUX, CONFESSOR  The city of Meaux situated on the Marne, ten leagues from Paris, in the time of the ancient Gauls, was subject to the Parisii, and received the first seeds of faith by the preaching of St Dionysius [St Denis] of Paris about the year 250. St Sanctinus or Saintin, first bishop of Meaux, is said by some to have been a disciple of that saint in the third age; but Du Plessis thinks him to have been the same Saintin who was bishop of Verdun in the fourth century, and whose relics were translated from Meaux to the abbey of St Vanne at Verdun, in the eleventh century. His successor Antoninus, and Rigomer the ninth bishop of Meaux, are honoured among the saints. But the eminent sanctity of Saint Faro , the fourteenth bishop of this see, has rendered his name the most illustrious of all the prelates of this see, who are mentioned in the calendars of the church...
