ANIANUS OF EBERBACH - 18 NOVEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER Saints celebrated on the 18th of November   ANIANUS OF EBERBACH Anianus, a lay brother (conversus) at the monastery of Eberbach in the Odenwald [in Germany], possessed the gift of miracles. Every sick person on whom he laid his hands was healed.  When the influx of people seeking to be cured caused great unrest and disruption in the monastery and the abbot forbade him to do what the people wanted, Anianus, in perfect obedience, promptly and completely submitted to his superior's will. SAINT APPHIA, MARTYR - 22 NOVEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER Saints celebrated on the 22nd of November SAINT APPHIA, MARTYR According to the Roman Martyrology, Saint Apphia (Appias, Apia) was a disciple of St Paul the Apostle and a Martyr at Colossae.  Her name is also found Philemon (verse 2, [see below]), where St Paul sends greetings "to Apphia, the well-beloved sister". According to Chrysostom and Theodoret, she is said to have been the wife of Philemon . BL. AGNES OF LIÈGE AND COMPANIONS, VIRGINS - 5 APRIL

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL Saints celebrated on the 5th of April BLESSED AGNES OF LIÈGE AND COMPANIONS, VIRGINS   Agnes,  Ozilia and Isabella (or Elisabeth) were companions of the holy Juliana , a prioress of the monastery of Mons Cornelii near Liège.  When the latter left her monastery to move to Namur, these three Virgins accompanied her. All of them passed to their eternal reward before Juliana did. Additionally, each of them is honoured on their own special day:  Agnes, who is said to have died at Saussigni near Namur, on January 21; Ozilia on January 3 and Isabella (Elisabeth) on November 19. Some writers list these Virgins among the "blessed." SAINT JULIANA OF LIÈGE, VIRGIN - 6 APRIL

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL Saints celebrated on the 6th of April WELCOME! SAINT JULIANA OF LIÈGE, VIRGIN Saint Juliana was a nun, born at Retinnes, near Liège, Belgium, in 1193. She died at Fosses, April 5, 1258. At the age of five she lost her parents and was placed in the convent of Mont-Cornillon, near Liège [Lüttich].  She made rapid progress, and read with pleasure the writings of St Augustine and St Bernard. She also cultivated an ardent love of the Blessed Virgin, the Sacred Passion, and especially the Blessed Sacrament.  In 1206 she received the veil, and devoted herself to the sick in the hospital in charge of the convent. She very early exerted every energy to introduce the feast of Corpus Christi.  In 1230 she was chosen superioress by the unanimous vote of the community. But soon God sent heavy trials. Her convent was under the supervision of a general superior, Roger, a man of vicious and scandalous habits; he secured this position in 1233 by intrigues and bribery. D

ANSOALD, BISHOP OF STRASBOURG - 16 NOVEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER Saints celebrated on the 16th of November   ANSOALD, BISHOP OF STRASBOURG Ansoald - or Agnoald, as he is also called - was first a monk, then abbot of the Gregor-Münster monastery (Münster im Gregorienthal) in Alsace. In A.D. 676 he was elevated to the episcopal See of Strasbourg. As a bishop, he faithfully followed in the footsteps of his predecessors, Remigius, Arbogast, Amandus, etc., and died in A.D. 680.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER Saints celebrated on the 1st of November SAINT BEIA, VIRGIN Saint Beia (Beya) is commemorated on November 2. A Virgin of Scotland, she presided over a Benedictine monastery there. This holy Virgin died in the Lord in the year 896. (El., Buc. Sppl.) SAINT AZA AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS - 19 NOVEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER Saints celebrated on the 19th of November SAINT AZA AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS   In the early fourth century, Saint Aza (Axas) and his 150 fellow soldiers were killed for their Christian faith. This happened under Emperor Diocletian at the orders of the war tribune Aquilinus in Isauria. According to the hagiographer Migne their martyrdom took place in A.D. 304. The Roman Martyrology mentions them on this day as well. SAINT AEGIL, ABBOT - 28 NOVEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER Saints celebrated on the 28th of November SAINT AEGIL, ABBOT The abbot Aegil (Aegilis), whom Raderus lists among the “saints” in his Bavaria sancta [Encyclopedia of Saints], was born in Bavaria [in South Germany]. He became the abbot of Fulda.  From an early age, his parents entrusted him to the saintly  Abbot Sturmius of Fulda for his education.  When Aegil became abbot - despite all the insight and wisdom he possessed - did he never undertake anything of any importance without consulting his fellow monks. In this way he brought about a wonderful unity and harmony of hearts in his monastery.  Already during his lifetime, he had the grave prepared that was to receive his body after his death and himself affixed his epitaph over it. When he died in 822, the monastery was in the most beautiful bloom.
