ST DAMIAN NAM, MARTYR - 24 MAY

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MAY Saints celebrated on the 24th of May WELCOME! SAINT DAMIAN NAM, MARTYR Damian Nam and  Maria (commemorated on  May 24 and September 3 ), husband and wife, were martyred in Korea in 1839 for their faith in Jesus Christ. Damian Nam [Damien Nam Myong-hyok] became a Christian at the age of thirty and laboured as a lay catechist because of his zeal for the salvation of his own and others' souls. His wish to die as a martyr was fulfilled after eight years of confessing Christianity. He was arrested with his entire family and interrogated for several days in a row. At each interrogation he had to endure cruel tortures. Because he remained steadfast, he was finally sentenced to death. On May 24, amid fervent prayers, he was executed [by decapitation].   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL Saints celebrated on the 12th of April SAINT DAMIAN, BISHOP Today, we also commemorate Saint Damian. The Roman Martyrology states:  "At Pavia, Saint Damian, bishop." PRAYER: Grant to your Church, we beseech you, O Lord, through the intercession of Saint Damian, not to think high-mindedly, but to grow in humility pleasing to you; that, despising what is base, she may with unbounded love diligently do whatever is right. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

SS. COSMAS AND DAMIAN, MARTYRS - 26 SEPTEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN SEPTEMBER Saints celebrated on the 26th of September WELCOME! SAINTS COSMAS AND DAMIAN, MARTYRS  Saint Cosmas and Saint Damian were brothers who lived in the 3rd/4th centuries. They were from present day Turkey. Working as doctors, both treated their patients without asking for payment. The brothers were martyred during the persecution of Emperor Diocletian. Their cult soon became widespread due to numerous miraculous healings through their intercession. PRAYER: Lord, we honour the memory of Saints Cosmas and Damian. Accept our grateful praise for raising them to eternal glory and for giving us your fatherly care. SAINT DAMIAN DE VEUSTER, PRIEST ⬅️ More information about St Damian de Veuster Saint Damian de Veuster (St Damian of Molokai) was born in Belgium in 1840 into a Flemish-speaking family of grain merchants. His parents wanted him to go into the family business but when he wanted to join the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, like his older brother, they did not stand in his way. HE WENT TO THE MISSIONS Damian’s older brother was meant to go to Hawaii to the missions, but when he became ill Damian arranged to take his place. HE CARED FOR THE SUFFERERS Once ordained and given his own parish, Damian was full of energy – evangelizing, building churches, farming, ministering to his parishioners, and debunking voodoo.
