SAINT AUREA CHRYSE AND 18 COMPANIONS, MARTYRS - 24 AUGUST

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 24th of August WELCOME! SAINT AUREA CHRYSE AND 18 COMPANIONS, MARTYRS In the mid-3rd century,  Saint Aurea (called Chryse in the Greek Meneae ), suffered with the soldiers Censorinus, Felix, Maximus, Herculinus, Venerius, Styracinus, Cenas, Commodus, Hermes, Maurus, Eusebius, Rusticus, Monagreus, Amandinus, Olympius, Cyprius, the tribune Theodorus, and Sabaïnus. They were killed for Christ's sake in Ostia on the Tiber.  Saint Aurea was thrown into the sea with a stone around her neck, but the others, who were guarding the captives and had converted, were beheaded after cruel beatings. In church art, Saint Aurea is represented with a millstone. The Roman Martyrology *, on August 24, mentions only Saint Aurea, but not the names of her Companions.
