BLESSED GREGORY KHOMYSHYN, BISHOP AND MARTYR Blessed Gregory Khomyshyn (Hryhoriy Khomyshyn) was born on March 25, 1867 in the village of Hadynkivtsi, eastern Galicia. He graduated from Lviv seminary and was ordained a priest on November 18, 1893. He continued to study at the University of Vienna, and in 1902, he was appointed the rector of the Greek Catholic Theological Seminary in Lviv. In 1904, he was consecrated as the bishop for Stanyslaviv.  Throughout his tenure, spanning over four decades, he was considered the second most powerful figure in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. Bishop Gregory adopted a more westward orientation, further emphasizing the Uniate Church's relationship with Rome. BLESSED OTTO, PRIEST AND RELIGIOUS Blessed Otto (December 28), monk in Nieder-Altaich, lived as a hermit with the permission of the abbot, and died godly in 1334.  When still young, Otto left his father's house with his brother, Hermann , travelled to Cologne and came from there to Niederaltaich, where Hermann became a lay brother in 1320. Otto was ordained a priest in Niederaltaich, also went into solitude. He penetrated into the woods towards Bohemia, came to Frauenau after the death of his brother Hermann, but then went with  Blessed Degenhardt on the Frauenberg near Niederaltaich, where he died and was buried in the Niederaltaich monastery. (1693) Maria Antonia Sigmund, of Brixen, made her profession on April 18, 1656 at the Poor Clare convent in her native town. HOLY INNOCENTS, MARTYRS To "the men children that were in Bethlehem and in all the borders thereof" killed by order of King Herod ( Matthew 2:16 ), Saints Irenaeus , Hilary , Cyprian ,  Augustine and other Fathers give the title of Martyrs; and as such they have from the beginning been commemorated in all Martyrologies and honoured liturgically both in the Eastern and in the Western Church. Several Oriental Rites keep the Feast of Holy Innocents on December 29; but December 28 is by far the more usual date.  From The Book of Saints, 1921, by the Monks of Ramsgate PRAYER: Father, You give us Your life even before we understand.
