BLESSED CHRISTOPHER WHARTON, PRIEST AND MARTYR [Blessed Christopher Wharton, English Martyr, was] born at Middleton, Yorkshire, before 1546; he was martyred at York, March 28, 1600. The second son of Henry Wharton of Wharton and Agnes Warcop, and younger brother of Thomas, first Lord Wharton, Christopher was educated at Trinity College, Oxford, where he graduated M.A., February 3, 1564, and afterwards became a fellow.  In 1583 he entered the English College at Reims to study for the priesthood (July 28). He was ordained priest in the following year (March 31), but continued his studies after ordination till 1586, when on May 21 he left Reims in company with Ven. Edward Burden . No details of his missionary labours have been preserved; but at his trail Baron Savile, the judge, incidentally remarked that he had known him at Oxford some years after 1596.  He was finally arrested in 1599 at the h...

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH Saints celebrated on the 28th of March ILLUMINATUS ROSENGARDT, RELIGIOUS Illuminatus Rosengardt (Johann Ludwig Rosengardt) was born on August 15, 1612 as the son of the councilor Johann Jakob Rosengardt in Thann, district Altkirch (Upper Alsace).  He entered the Franciscan Order as a pious youth in Lucerne, where Johann Ludwig received the name Illuminatus. He completed his novitiate and died three months later - on March 28, 1632, "considered a blessed one by all who knew him" ( omnium opinione beatus , as it read on his original memorial stone).  Because of the excessive influx of faithful asking for Illuminatus' intercession, his mortal remains were raised on February 4, 1746 and kept in the chapter house until May 21, 1749, on which day they were locked in a tin coffin and sunk into the ground below the credence table .   SAINT HESYCHIUS, PRIEST According to the Greek Synaxarium (Mart. I. 873) ,  Saint Hesychius was born and brought up in Jerusalem. By A.D. 412 he had already acquired a reputation for extensive learning. He was probably born in the second half of the 4th century. Saint Gregory of Nazianzen is thought to have been his teacher. More than in all other sciences he was versed in the professions pertaining to God and divine things.  He sought solitude, became a monk and lived in the desert, where he visited the fathers in the monasteries and gathered the flowers of virtue like the bee collects honey. His piety persuaded the archbishop of Jerusalem to ordain him a priest. He also travelled to all the holy places where Jesus Christ lived, taught and suffered and devoted himself to the interpretation of the holy scriptures. Harduin de Maille was her father, her mother's name was Johanna de Montbazon (Mons Bassonis). Everyone called her Marie only after her Confirmation - originally she had received her mother's name at baptism. Even as a child she was inclined to great piety and had heavenly visions.  When she came of age, she married, at her parents' wish, a certain Robert de Silley, whom she persuaded to remain in a virginal marriage with her. MARTIN IV., POPE  ⬅️ Saintly Popes - Index Simon de Brie was born at the castle of Montpensier in the old French province of Touraine at an unknown date; he died at Perugia March 28, 1285.  As priest he held a benefice at Rouen for a short time, whereupon he became canon and treasurer at the church of St Martin in Tours. King Louis IX made him Chancellor of France in 1260 and Urban VI created him cardinal-priest with the titular church of St Cecilia in December, 1262. Under Urban VI (1261-4) and his successor, Clement IV (1265-8), he was legate in France with powers to offer the Kingdom of Sicily to Charles of Anjou on certain conditions.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH Saints celebrated on the 28th of March JAKOBUS WIRTH, FOUNDER  Jakobus (James) was born in Niederbreitbach, Kingdom of Prussia (in today's Germany), on October 15, 1830. He trained as a shoemaker. He joined the Third Order of St Francis, whose members were active in addressing the social and religious needs of the region.  THE FRANCISCAN BROTHERS OF THE HOLY CROSS In 1862, with the approval of the Bishop of Trier, he formed the Franciscan Brothers of the Holy Cross. The motherhouse of the new congregation, St Joseph Monastery, was built in the town of Hausen in 1866. SAINT STEPHEN HARDING, ABBOT  Saint Stephen Harding, the third Abbot of Cîteaux, was born at Sherborne in Dorsetshire, England, about the middle of the eleventh century; he died March 28 , 1134 .  THE NEW FOUNDATION He received his early education in the monastery of Sherborne and afterwards studied in Paris and Rome. On returning from the latter city he stopped at the monastery of Molesme and, being much impressed by the holiness of Saint Robert , the abbot, joined that community. BLESSED RENÉE MARIE FEILLATREAU, MARTYR  During the French Revolution, the new revolutionary authorities violently suppressed the Church, abolished the Catholic monarchy, seized Church property, and persecuted and killed priests and religious. During this period, Blessed Renée Marie, who was born in Angers, France, in 1751, was arrested for protecting vestments and sacred vessels used for Holy Mass. She was put on a show trial and subsequently condemned to death. She frankly and courageously declared publicly that she preferred to die rather than deny her Catholic Faith. She was guillotined on March 28, 1794.  BL. ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH Saints celebrated on the 28th of March WELCOME! SAINT CONON OF NASO, ABBOT Born in 1139, son of Count Anselmo Navacita, governor of Naso, Italy, Saint Conon chose poverty for the Lord by becoming a monk at the Fragala Abbey in Frazzano. Ordained to the Priesthood, he was chosen abbot after a spell as a hermit in a cave at the Rock of Almo.  HOLINESS AND MIRACLES His reputation for holiness and miracles spread: for instance, whilst on  Pilgrimage in the Holy Land, he received a vision in which he saw a priest he knew being suffocated by a snake. Having returned from the Holy Land, he went directly to this priest and told him what he had seen. The priest at once admitted to St Conon that he was taking church funds and keeping them for himself. St Conon then persuaded his fellow priest to change his ways.
