  WELCOME! SAINT BAITHEN OF IONA, MISSIONARY Saint Baithen was an Irish monk, specially selected by Saint Columba as one of the band of missionaries who set sail for Britain in 563. Born in 536, the son of Brenaron, he was an ardent disciple of Saint Columba, and was appointed Abbot of Tiree Island, a monastery founded by Saint Comgall of Bangor.  Saint Adamnan, in recording the death of Saint Columba, tells us that the dying words of the Apostle of Iona, as he was transcribing the fifty-third Psalm, were: "I must stop here, let Baithen write what follows" . Baithen had been looked on as the most likely successor of Saint Columba, and so it happened that on the death of that great apostle, in 596, the monks unanimously confirmed the choice of their founder.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN OCTOBER   Saints celebrated on the 6th of October SAINT POLLENA, VIRGIN Saint Pollena (Polena) was a virgin of Hunecourt (Hunonis Curia), Bishopric of Cambrai in Belgium. She died around A.D. 700. Her body now rests in the church of St Prix (Prejectus) at St Quintin. These facts are stated by Migne * while, according to Molanus * (Nat. S. S. Belg.) all the relics have been lost. (IV. 289.) St Pollena is also commemorated on February 4.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN OCTOBER   Saints celebrated on the 6th of October SAINT BARTIUS, BISHOP OF VAIZON Saint Bartius (Barsius), a bishop of Vaizon (Vasio) in the French territory of Venaissin (Vindauscum) , succeeded St Quinidius (February 15) on the episcopal chair. St Bartius died in A.D. 578 after a reign of about three years.  According to Migne *, however, he succeeded St Quinidius in A.D. 579 and died towards the end of the 6th century; the Bollandists * do not confirm this, though. Born in Mantua, Paula became a widow at the age of twenty, converted her house there into a hospital, and died in the odour of sanctity. Paula was then 79 years old; she passed to her eternal reward on October 6, 1575. SAINT IWY OF LINDISFARNE Saint Cuthbert with some of his monks Saint Iwy  [Iwi], feast day October 6, was a 7th century Saint of British birth. A monk at Lindisfarne, he was ordained deacon by  Saint Cuthbert .  Saint Ywy appears to have died in Brittany about the end of the seventh century. His relics were translated to Wilton, near Salisbury.
