ST FINAN, BISHOP OF LINDISFARNE - 17 FEBRUARY

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN FEBRUARY Saints celebrated on the 17th of February WELCOME! SAINT FINAN, BISHOP OF LINDISFARNE Saint Finan (Finanus), commemorated on February 17 , and also on January 9 , was of noble Scottish descent. He received an excellent education in virtue and learning, became a monk in the monastery of  St Columba on the island of Hy, and later Bishop of Lindisfarne. As such, he succeeded Saint Aidan , built the church at Lindisfarne, converted and baptised King Penda, consecrated  Dimma and St Cedd . After ten years of episcopal ministry, he went to his eternal reward in 661. He did not live according to the rule of  Saint Benedict , but according to that of Saint Columba . Bucelin * places his memorial on  January 9  and states that he died in 659 . (III. 21).
