BL. GUY OF CORTONA, RELIGIOUS - 12 JUNE

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JUNE Saints celebrated on the 12th of June BLESSED GUY OF CORTONA, RELIGIOUS A page of one of Fortunatus Hueber's Saints' books, "Stammenbuch..." (1693) We do not know anything about his parents or background. He was able to read and write from a young age, and known for being pious and innocent. Guy (Guido) lived partly on the earnings of his parents' fortune, partly on the labour of his hands. Whatever he had left he gave to the poor for Christ's sake.  When  Saint Francis  came to Cortona around 1211 and preached, Guy asked him to join his Order. After distributing all his belongings among the poor, the saint led him into the church and gave him the habit in front of all the people. Then they went to a neighbouring place, where they built a small monastery from alms, which received the name Celle (Cellae) .
