SAINT CYPRIAN, BISHOP OF BRESCIA Saint Cyprian (Cyprianus), a chief pastor of Brescia in northern Italy, is said to have been bishop of this city succeeding  Paulinus and preceding  Herculanus (i.e. around the year 552). His body, which is kept and venerated at the Church of Saint Peter in Oliveto, was exposed on the high altar in A.D. 1503.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL Saints celebrated on the 21st of April JOHN RUIZ, RELIGIOUS A page of one of Fortunatus Hueber's Saints' books, "Stammenbuch..." (1693) John Ruiz (Johannes Ruizius) ,  remembered on April 21, was a Franciscan at Aunon (Aunonium), a spot in the province of Madrid in Spain. He died in 1590.  According to Hub. Men.* , there have been two holy religious called John Ruiz, contemporaries who are both remembered on March 28. Apart from the one mentioned above, another John Ruiz died around 1580. The latter is also listed by the Bollandists * in the Art. Mart .* on July 28 (among the Praetermissi - II. 841 ).   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL Saints celebrated on the 21st of April SAINT USTHAZANES, MARTYR Saint Usthazanes (Guhsiatazades), a martyr, was eunuch and tutor to the Persian king Sapor II. He drifted away from the faith but was converted again by the steadfast example of Bishop Simeon. Our saint ended up being martyred for the faith in Christ in A.D. 341. St Usthazanes is also commemorated on April 4. As Anselm of Lucca, he had been recognised for a number of years as one of the leaders of the reform party, especially in the Milanese territory, where he was born at Baggio, of noble parentage.  Together with Hildebrand, he had imbibed in Cluny the zeal for reform. The first theatre of his activity was Milan, where he was one of the founders of the Pataria, and lent to that great agitation against simony and clerical incontinency the weight of his eloquence and noble birth.  The device of silencing him, contrived by Archbishop Guido and other episcopal foes of reform in Lombardy, viz. sending him to the court of the Emperor Henry III, had the contrary effect of enabling him to spread the propaganda in Germany. SAINT ANSELM, ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY  ⬅️ Saintly Archbishops of Canterbury Saint Anselm was born in Aosta, Piedmont, in 1033. He entered the Benedictine Order at the monastery of Bec in France. While he quickly progressed in the spiritual life, he taught theology to his fellow students.  ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY He went to England where he was appointed archbishop of Canterbury. He fought vigorously for the freedom of the Church, and for this he was exiled twice. He has achieved fame for his writings, especially those on mystical theology. He died in 1109.
