SAINT GODERMUND, BISHOP AND MARTYR The name Godermund is derived from the Old German tongue, meaning: man of God, the one protected by God, etc. Saint Godermund (Godermundus) French Godrémont , is listed in some of the famous martyrologies. He is said to have been a bishop in Iceland and to have suffered there for the sake of his faith. Further details are not provided. It is possible that he is identical with with Jonas Ogemundus , the disciple of St Islegh and Bishop of Hola [Hólar] in Iceland. Saint Godermund died in 1121 and was canonised in 1201. (I. 3.. Mg.)
