ST ARCADIUS, ARCHBISHOP OF BOURGES - 1 AUGUST

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 1st of August WELCOME! SAINT ARCADIUS, ARCHBISHOP OF BOURGES Saint Arcadius, commemorated on August 1, was Archbishop of Bourges ( Bituricum ) in France and lived in the 6th century.  Not much is known of him except that he was represented by the priest Probianus at the third Council of Orleans, which according to some was held in 538. It is certain that he ordained St Patroclus, hermit in Berry, as cleric and deacon. Sources vary regarding the exact year of his death; but the Bollandists * consider it highly probable that he died in 545.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH Saints celebrated on the 6th of March WELCOME! SAINT ARCADIUS OF CYPRUS Saint Arcadius, commemorated on March 6, was the teacher of the holy martyrs Julian and Eubulus . SAINT ARCADIUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS - 13 NOVEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER Saints celebrated on the 13th of November   WELCOME! SAINT ARCADIUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS S.S. Arcadius et Soc. M.M.  According to the  Roman Martyrology *, which lists Saints Arcadius, Paschasius , Probus and Eutychian (Eutychianus) on November 13, were Spaniards by birth, and when they were unwilling to convert to Arianism in the persecution of the Vandals, were first proscribed by King Genseric, who was an Arian, and then exiled [to Africa] and finally, after cruel torture, killed in various ways.  At the same time shone the steadfastness of a boy named Paulillus , a brother of Saints Paschasius and Eutychian. When attempts had been made in vain to make him renounce the Catholic faith, he was beaten inhumanly with sticks and finally condemned to the lowest servitude.  Migne * relates that their martyrdom happened in A.D. 137, and that Bishop Anthony (Antonius) of Constantine wrote a letter of encouragement to these...

SAINT EPHREM, BISHOP AND MARTYR - 7 MARCH

    ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH Saints celebrated on the 7th of March SAINT EPHREM, BISHOP AND MARTYR Saint Ephrem (Ephraem) was a bishop and martyr in the Crimea (Chersonesus Taurica). His death for the holy faith occurred in the early 4th century.  The Bollandists * list Basileus, Eugenius, Agathodorus, Elpidius, Aetherius and Capitus as his companions in suffering; the Roman Martyrology * features the same fellow martyrs  along with Saint Ephrem on March 4, but mention two further saints, Nestor and Arcadius, and name Basilius instead of Basileus. SAINTS NESTOR AND ARCADIUS, BISHOPS - 7 MARCH

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH Saints celebrated on the 7th of March SAINTS NESTOR AND ARCADIUS, BISHOPS According to the Greek Meneae *, Saints Nestor and Arcadius, two bishops of Trimethus on the island of Cyprus, went to their eternal reward on the same day. In what century they lived cannot be determined. (I. 643 and 644). These holy bishops are also commemorated on March 4. The Roman Martyrology states:  "In Africa, the holy martyrs Arcadius , Paschasius , Probus and Eutychian, Spaniards, who refused absolutely to yield to the Arian perfidy, during the persecution of the Vandals. Accordingly they were proscribed by the Arian king Genseric, driven into exile, and finally, after being subjected to fearful tortures, were put to death in various manners. Then was also made manifest the constancy of the small boy Paulillus, brother of the Saints Paschasius and Eutychian. As he could not be seduced from the Catholic faith, he was a long time beaten with rods, and condemned to a base servitude."   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY Saints celebrated on the 26th of January WELCOME! SS. XENOPHON, MARY, ARCADIUS, AND JOHN  A map of the Holy Land, where our family of saints got reunited Saint Xenophon was a senator in Constantinople and led a pious, virtuous life with his wife Mary . The same is placed in the fifth century and is described by Simeon Metaphrastes.  HE INSTRUCTED HIS SONS IN THE FEAR OF GOD He instructed his sons Arcadius and John in the fear of God, and when they had matured into youths, he sent them to Berytus (later Beirut, the port city for Damascus) to have them fully trained in jurisprudence at the world-famous law school there.  THEY SUFFERED SHIPWRECK When he fell ill soon after, his sons came to visit him, which restored him to full health. On the return voyage to Beirut, the sons were shipwrecked. Both escaped to shore, albeit in such a way that neither knew that the other was still alive.
