SAINT FELIM, BISHOP OF KILMORE ⬅️ Litany of the Irish Saints ⬅️ List: Irish Confessors and Martyrs Saint Felim ( Fedlimid ) lived in the sixth century and was Bishop of Kilmore. He is the patron saint of the Kilmore diocese. Felim became a hermit living near Kilmore, County Cavan, where he later founded a monastery. According to the Martyrology of Tallaght and Martyrology of Donegal his feast day is August 3 but the other Calendars list it on August 9. RICHARD CHARTRIET, RELIGIOUS Richard Chartriet, remembered on August 9 , was a martyr of the Franciscan Order in England. During the reign of King Henry VIII, whom he refused to recognize as head of the Church, Richard died in 1537 from exhaustion as a result of severe prison suffering, along with several other men and women (II. 400). However, the source used by the  Bollandists * did not state whether these relics came from  King Richard of England ( February 7 ), whose remains rest in Lucca, or are those of another saint of this name.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 9th of August WELCOME! BLESSED JOHN TALBOT, MARTYR John Talbot, from North Yorkshire, was present at prayer with the priest,  Fr Thomas Palasor ,  John Norton  and several companions at a house in Lamesley, Gateshead when he was arrested in 1600. It was Talbot who tried to prevent the arrest of the priest. For this, he too was later sentenced as a traitor. Talbot was imprisoned and confined in a dungeon and shortly thereafter, sentenced to be hanged, drawn and quartered for the crime of harbouring a Catholic priest. On Wednesday August 9, 1600, Talbot was brought, together with  Fr Thomas Palasor  and  John Norton , to the gallows site in Durham, on the crest of the hill at the north side of Durham City. He was given the chance to save his life if he would renounce the Catholic faith and attend the government enforced Protestant services - he did not waver, however, and remained a faithful Cath...

BLESSED JOHN NORTON, MARTYR Blessed John Norton, born in Yorkshire, was the second son of Richard Norton, who had been attainted with rebellion in 1569, and his second wife Margaret Redshaw.  Blessed John Norton and his wife were arrested in their home at Laymsley, Co. Durham, for harbouring a Catholic priest,  Fr Thomas Palaser ( Palasor ) (commemorated on September 8). They were condemned to death, but Mrs Norton was reprieved because she was pregnant. Fr Palaser  and Blessed John Norton were hanged on August 9, 1600 with their companion John Talbot . John Norton was beatified by  Pope John Paul II   on November 22, 1987, as part of the martyr group  George Haydock  and Companions. PIERRE D'AILLY, BISHOP OF CAMBRAI, CARDINAL Pierre d'Ailly (Petrus de Allaco) was a French theologian and philosopher, bishop and cardinal, born 1350 at Compiègne; died probably [August 9, 1420] at Avignon. He studied at the College of Navarre, University of Paris. In 1375, by his commentaries on the Sentences of Peter Lombard, he furthered the cause of Nominalism in the University of Paris. He received the degree of Doctor of Theology in 1380.  At that time he wrote several treatises, in which he maintained, among other doctrines, that bishops and priests hold their jurisdiction from Christ, not from the Pope, that the Pope is inferior to a general council, that neither the Pope nor the council is strictly infallible, but only the universal Church. MATTHIAS BURNATZ, PRIEST AND MARTYR The pious priest Matthias Burnatz (Burnatius) S.J. was born in Rosenberg in Silesia in 1584 and entered the Society of Jesus in Brno on September 23, 1607. His virtues and his zeal for the glory of God persuaded his superiors to appoint him missionary to the Gitzin area. In fact he succeeded in returning several thousand Hussites to the mother church.  But in this beautiful work he had a dubious ally, the secular power, which was determined to enforce reversion and conversion through coercive measures if the preacher's word was inadequate.
