ST DIUMA, BISHOP OF MERCIA - 7 DECEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER   Saints celebrated on the 7th of December WELCOME! SAINT DIUMA, BISHOP OF MERCIA ⬅️ Litany of the Irish Saints Saint Diuma (Dimma, Dwyna, Duma), "Apostle of Mercia", an Irishman, was a missionary bishop sent with three others by Saint Finan , bishop of Lindisfarne, to evangelise Mercia after the baptism of King Peada, son of Penda, around the year 652. His companions were Cedd, Betti, and Adda, all of whom were English. According to  Bede  (Historia ecclesiastica", III, 21), Diuma's apostolate in Mercia was successful. After the death of Penda (654), Oswiu of Northumbria ruled Mercia 654-70, during which time Diuma was consecrated bishop of the Middle Angles and Mercians. He died in 658 at a place that  Bede  calls Infeppingum . An eleventh-century Saxon list of saints' burial places states that Diuma was buried at Charlebury, near the river Windrush in Oxfordshire, which indicates that he was venerated as a saint. Sour...

GERARD DE FARSA, BISHOP OF VELLETRI, CONFESSOR - 7 DECEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER   Saints celebrated on the 7th of December WELCOME! GERARD DE FARSA, BISHOP OF VELLETRI, CONFESSOR On December 7, we also commemorate Gerard de Farsa (Gerardus, Girardus, Giraldus), a bishop and confessor of Velletri (apud Veliternos) in the Papal States. He was born in France and distinguished himself by his piety, holy conduct, mortification and works of charity. Even as a bishop, he firmly adhered to all the requirements of monastic life. Miraculous healings took place at his grave. He is the patron of Velletri (Velitrae) , where he entered eternal joy on the above day. (Buc.) BL. GERARD, CARDINAL BISHOP OF OSTIA - 7 DECEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER   Saints celebrated on the 7th of December WELCOME! BLESSED GERARD, CARDINAL BISHOP OF OSTIA Blessed Gerard of Ostia (Gerardus, Geraldus) was first prior in Cluny (Cluni, Clugny) , then cardinal bishop of Ostia. A faithful companion of Saint Ulrich of Cluny , Gerard stood out among his contemporaries for his gentleness and piety, as well as for his manly courage, so much so that Pope Alexander II considered him worthy to succeed  Peter Damian   as Bishop of Ostia and as Cardinal. The office of papal legate in France was also entrusted to him with great success. Under Pope Gregory VII Gerard was sent to Spain in the same capacity. Henry IV had him pursued and captured. Nevertheless, Gerard remained a pillar of the church until his death, which took place in 1077. The Elenchus * mentions him on December 6, Lechner * on December 7 (Lech., El.). SAINT MARTIN, BISHOP OF LYON - 7 DECEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER Saints celebrated on the 7th of December WELCOME! SAINT MARTIN, BISHOP OF LYON Saint Martin (Martinus) is the fifteenth in the order of the bishops of Lyon. He was a disciple of  Saint Martin of Tours , sixth abbot of Isle Barbe (Barbara) before his elevation, and probable founder of the monastery of Saintes (Saulges). He flourished at the beginning of the fifth century. His veneration is immemorial; his name is mentioned in the major litanies of the church of Lyon. SAINT EUTROPIUS, ABBOT - 7 DECEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER Saints celebrated on the 7th of December WELCOME! SAINT EUTROPIUS, ABBOT Saint Eutropius was a student of  Saint Martin of Saintes who, in turn, was a disciple of Saint Martin of Tours . Saint Martin of Saintes was educated at the monastery of Marmoutier, but later moved to Saintogne and built a monastery at Saintes. His most famous pupil was our saint who also became his successor. Saint Eutropius flourished in the 5th century. However, no further details have come down to us . (But. XVIII. 116., El.) The Roman Martyrology states:  "At Tuburbum, in Africa, during the persecution of the Vandals, under the Arian king Hunneric, Saint Servus, martyr, who, being for a very long time beaten with rods, lifted up on high with pulleys and suddenly dropped on flint-stones with his whole weight, and rubbed over with sharp stones, obtained the palm of martyrdom." The cardinal priest Sinibald Fieschi (Fliscus), from one of the most respected Genoese families, was unanimously elected Pope on June 25, 1243 and called himself Innocent IV.  A POLITICALLY TURBULENT PERIOD He ruled the church during a politically turbulent period. SAINT FARA, VIRGIN AND ABBESS Agneric, one of the principal officers of the court of Theodebert II. king of Austrasia, had by his wife Leodegonda, four children: St Cagnoald, who took the monastic habit under St Columban at Luxeu [Luxeuil], about the year 594; St Faro , who became bishop of Meaux; St Fara, and Agnetrudis.  In 610 ,  St Columban being banished from Luxeuil, in his flight lodged at the house of Agneric, called Pipimisium, two leagues from Meaux.
