JACQUES DE MOLAY, KNIGHT TEMPLAR Templar Grand Master Jacques de Molay King Philip IV of France, deeply in debt to the Templars, had Jacques de Molay and many other French Templars arrested in 1307 and tortured into making false confessions. When Molay later retracted his confession, Philip had him burned upon a scaffold on an island in the River Seine in front of Notre-Dame de Paris in March, 1314. Jacques was born in Molay, Burgundy, France, as most Templar knights were, into a noble Catholic Christian family. He probably was made a knight at age 21 in 1265 and was about 70 years of age at the time he was burned at the stake in 1314.  King Philip IV of France (Philip the Fair), deeply in debt to the Templars, was also at odds with the papacy, trying to tax the clergy, and had been attempting to assert his own authority as higher than that of the Pope. BLESSED JOHN THULIS AND BLESSED ROGER WRENNO, MARTYRS John Thulis , priest, was born in Lancashire, at a place called Up-Holland; and performed the greatest part of his studies abroad in Douay college, during its residence at Rheims from whence, being now a student in divinity and in holy orders he was sent to Rome, where he was made priest. After his return to England he fell into the hands of the adversaries of his faith, and was for many years a close prisoner in Wisbech castle: when or how he escaped, or was released from thence, I have not found: but for the latter part of his time he seems to have exercised his missionary functions in his own country at least - there he was apprehended by order of William Earl of Derby, and committed prisoner to the county jail at Lancaster.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH Saints celebrated on the 18th of March WELCOME! BLESSED ROGER WRENNO, MARTYR Roger Wrenno  was an English lay martyr. Born c. 1576 at Chorley, Lancashire, he was hanged on March 18, 1616 at Lancaster under James I. A devout layman, Wrenno was imprisoned with other Catholics in Lancaster Castle but escaped with  Fr John Thulis one evening before the Lenten assizes. They were recaptured the following day. Wrenno refused to exchange the oath of supremacy for his life and was hanged just after Fr Thulis. He was beatified by  Pope John Paul II  on November 22, 1987 with  George Haydock and companions. LEO OF LANDSHUT, RELIGIOUS AND MISSIONARY Leo of Landshut (Leo de Landishuto) (March 18), a Franciscan from Landshut (probably in Silesia), devoted himself with the utmost effort to the conversion of Lithuania etc. along with his confreres - he spent 15 years on this labour of love. MUNDERIC, BISHOP OF ARISITUM Munderic (Mundericus) (Munderich) of Langres (French Mondry, Modericus, Mondericus, Mundéric) (born c. 540; died c. 580) was a Frankish bishop and Christian saint. His feast day is March 18. Since some sources reckon him to be the same person as Mondry of Cellettes, May 10 and 12 are also considered memorial days. Munderic of Langres was the son of Ferreole of Rodez and Saint Deuteria, abbess of Saint-Pierre in Reims. His siblings were Ferreole of Narbonne, Lucilla Ferreola, Agilulf, Deotarius, Babon, Ragenfred and Ausbert. Munderic was coadjutor of the ill  Bischop Tetricus of Langres, who died in 572/73. He was then consecrated Bishop of Tonnerre. However, he fell out of favour with the Frankish King Guntram I and was imprisoned. SAINT TETRICUS, BISHOP OF LANGRES Saint Tetricus, a son of Bishop Gregory  (Gregorius) of Langres and his wife Armentaria, became his father's successor to the episcopal see in 541. For his deceased father he built a magnificent tomb. Judging by the many churches, altars and monasteries he consecrated [as documented in the church archives] Tetricus was an extremely active bishop and also took an active part in the synods held in his time. Since he eventually needed a coadjutor because of his old age and increasing frailty [he suffered a stroke],  Munderic was assigned to him as such with the right of succession. (1693) Saint Euphrasia suffered for her faith in the days of Diocletian and Maximian under the prefect Priscillian of Nicaea in Bithynia. Her chest and sides were mangled, a bed of glowing coals prepared, and the worst torments inflicted on her with pointed tools. After two years of imprisonment, she was finally thrown into the sea.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH Saints celebrated on the 18th of March EPIPHANIUS A SS. TRINITATE, RELIGIOUS In A.D. 1699, Epiphanius was born at Sanzeno in the Nonstal in Tyrol. His pious mother's name was Elisabeth, his godly father was Georg Gentili, and he was baptised Joseph.  After a simple upbringing and a promising education, he went to study in Innsbruck at the age of twelve; but the world did not please him, and after having read the books of Saint Teresa of Avila he went back to Trento and asked his good parents for permission to enter the Order of the Discalced Carmelites. There he received the new name Epiphanius a SS. Trinitate . After his vows, he studied philosophy and theology, and then taught philosophy in Caprarola. Once a storm that lasted several days devastated fields and buildings.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH Saints celebrated on the 18th of March SAINT SALVADOR OF HORTA, RELIGIOUS Salvador of Horta (Salvator de Horta) was born of poor but godly parents at Colomba Farnesia, Bishopric of Girona, in Spain, around A.D. 1520. After their premature deaths, he earned his living at first by herding cattle and later learned the shoemaker's trade. At the age of twenty, he entered the Order of Saint Francis, and excelled in accuracy in observing the Rule. It pleased the dear Lord to glorify him with special blessings and to bestow on him the gift of miracles. Sick and suffering people sought his help.  Later, his superiors transferred him to Cagliari in Sardinia. He is called "of Horta" because this is the monastery where he lived for the longest period of time.  He died in 1567. Immediately after his death, the people began to venerate him as a saint.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH Saints celebrated on the 18th of March SAINT FELIX, DEACON AND MARTYR Saint Felix  was deacon of Saint Narcissus , bishop of Girona (Gerunda) in the Tarraconensian area of Spain, left his fatherland with him during the persecution of Diocletian and accompanied the holy prelate to Augsburg.  Here both received hospitality at the house of  Saint Afra and Hilaria, and our saint and his bishop instructed the ladies in the Christian faith. After they had stayed in Augsburg for almost a year, Felix and Narcissus returned to his bishopric, and after some time died martyrs' deaths. While the Roman Martyrology * mentions these saints together on March 18, the church of Augsburg celebrates the feast of its apostle Narcissus on October 29. BLESSED JOHN THULIS, PRIEST AND MARTYR  ⬅️ The 85 Martyrs of England and Wales Blessed  John Thulis (Thules) was an English martyr. He was born at Upholland, Lancashire, probably about 1568; he suffered at Lancaster, March 18, 1615 or 1616.  He arrived at the English College, Reims, May 25, 1583, and received tonsure from Cardinal Guise on September 23 following.
