ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MAY Saints celebrated on the 22 May WELCOME! NORLYLA, BISHOP OF VERDEN Norlyla (May 22, April 30), was allegedly the fourth bishop of Verden in Lower Saxony [Germany]. He is also called Nortilas, [Hortyla] and Nortulas. Camerarius describes him as a martyr and saint, probably erroneously, because there is none by that name on the official list of bishops of Verden. The Verden Chronicle names a Hortyla as the successor of St Tanco (Tanko) who died c. A.D. 808 as a martyr among the Saxons, so that the years that followed were assigned to Bishop Norlyla. It is not entirely sure whether Suibert [Swibrecht] was a bishop of Verden. Norlyla is mentioned by the Bollandists [hagiographers].
