SAINT LEOGONTIUS, BISHOP OF CLERMONT Saint Leogontius (June 5), also spelled Leoguntius (French: St-Legonce ), was Bishop of Clermont in Auvergne and the predecessor of Saint Illidius . Some hagiographers state that a church dedicated to him stood by the city's western wall and that he was buried there. He died around the year 366. In his "Lives of the Saints of Auvergne" , Jakob Branche * claims that Leogontius is venerated as a saint due to the undeniable miracles he performed; he further asserts that a church was built in his honour but that his remains were transferred to the church of the holy martyr Cassius . SAINT GENESIUS COMES, CONFESSOR Saint Genesius Comes, commemorated on June 5, was a contemporary and friend of Saint Bonitus . He flourished in the first half of the 8th century. His name Comes indicates a noble birth. As a boy he is said to have restored sight to a blind man, and the fame of his miraculous powers spread far and wide. His mother behaved very harsh towards him. Genesius, however, was always gentle and devoted. He spent almost all of his life in Combronde (near Riom, north of Clermont en Auvergne) and the surrounding area. Genesius provided the monastery of Menat (Moenati Coenobium) , on the road from Riom to Montalgut, with rich income. He also built several churches. Even after his passing, numerous miracles through his intercession were reported.  The details recorded by Migne * are not reliable, not least because the dates do not tally and a chronological order is not adhered to. ...

FERDINAND, THE SAINT PRINCE Ferdinand was the sixth and youngest son of King John I of Portugal and his wife Philippa of Lancaster. He was born in Santarém on September 29, 1402, the feast day of Saint Michael, a saint whom he honoured in a special way until his dying day. He had a complicated birth and remained a sickly child throughout much of his youth. Relatively sheltered because of his illnesses, Ferdinand had a quiet and very pious upbringing, a favourite of his English mother. In 1437, he took part in the Siege of Tangier led by his older brother Henry the Navigator. In the aftermath, Ferdinand was handed over to the rulers of Morocco as a hostage for the surrender of Ceuta. At first, Ferdinand was held in relative comfort as a noble hostage in Asilah, but when it became apparent that the Portuguese authorities had no intention of giving up Ceuta, Ferdinand's status was downgraded;...

SAINT EUTYCHIUS, BISHOP OF COMO Born of pious parents in Vico, not far from Como, in Northern Italy and distinguished by virtue and science, Eutychius succeeded  Bishop Eusebius of Como (Novocomum) around A.D. 525. After some years as bishop, he went into solitude to prepare himself for a happy eternity by serving God day and night through fasting, prayer and holy penitential tears. He fell asleep in the Lord around the year 532.  A dispute arose about the place of his burial. As no agreement could be reached, it was decided to place his body on a new wagon without a carter. The location where the horses would stop and stand still of their own accord, it should become the holy bishop's place of burial. The horses came to a halt at Vico near the church of Saint George; there he was accordingly buried. In 1569 as well as in 1641 translations of his holy relics took place. (I. 451) ...

(1693) Saint Felix, a monk at Fritzlar (Frislariae), proclaimed the Word of God with the greatest zeal, and after much arduous labour in the Lord's vineyard received the martyr's crown. This happened in the eighth century, it seems, at the hands of the Saxons, who were still pagans at the time.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JUNE   Saints celebrated on the 5th of June ISABEL VERDUGO, VIRGIN Isabel (Elisabeth) Verdugo consecrated herself to the Lord at the Franciscan convent of Saint Mary of Jesus near Abula [Avila] in Spain. She had such an ardent love for her divine Redeemer that when she heard Holy Mass she saw Him in person at the consecration. She entered her eternal rest around the year 1530. (Hub. Mart.)   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JUNE   Saints celebrated on the 5th of June   BRATHGIT, VIRGIN AND ABBESS Butler* (Vol. VII. p. 460), in the life of Saint Boniface , Archbishop of Mainz, mentions a Saint Brathgit¹, whom this holy prelate called from England and put in charge of one of the monasteries he founded. According to Seiters* (p. 198) her name is Berathgit and her mother Chunihild. Most likely she is identical with Saint Bergita (Bertigita), abbess of Thuringia. This saint is perhaps the same as Saint Austrobertus who is thought to have lived several centuries earlier.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JUNE   Saints celebrated on the 5th of June   PETER, PRINCE OF ARAGON, RELIGIOUS Peter, Prince of Aragon, of the Order of St Francis, died godly in Valencia (in A.D. 1378). He was a son of James II, King of Aragon, and his wife Blanca of Sicily, and entered a Franciscan monastery after the death of his wife Joan, a daughter of Count Roger of Tuxo. Peter had previously shown his love for evangelical poverty and the poor by building a hospital at Tarracona.
