ST METRIA, MARTYR - 13 NOVEMBER

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER Saints celebrated on the 13th of November WELCOME! SAINT METRIA, MARTYR Saint Metria (Metrius), commemorated on  November 13 , is called Saint Mitre or Saint Merre in French. He is venerated at Aix, where his relics are kept. Usuard * calls him a martyr,  Saint Gregory of Tours   a confessor; yet the latter also describes him as "a glorious champion ( inclytus athleta ) of great holiness" ( magnificae sanctitatis ). Nothing else is known of him other than that, although a slave, he inherited true freedom through the service of the Lord, as stated by Surius *. We do not know the source of the information found in Migne * - that the saint suffered under Diocletian in the year 304. We also consulted the Gallia christiana * regarding him but found nothing of the sort. While such an indication does appear in  Butler * ( XVI. 438) , the sources he cites make this claim seem entirely uncertain, if not arbitrary. (Information from Sta...
