ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER Saints celebrated on the 4th of December WELCOME! SAINT BERNARD, BISHOP OF PARMA Saint Bernard (Bernardus), Bishop of Parma, Cardinal of the Holy Roman Church and seventh general of the Order of Vallumbrosa [Vallombrosa], was born in Florence of the noble family of the Uberti. He entered the Order of the Vallombrosians at an early age and, because of his virtues, was elected abbot and soon afterwards general of the Order. Pope Urban II held him in extremely high esteem, making him cardinal, a dignity, however, which Bernard had tried in every way to avoid. When he had managed to bring the city of Parma back to obedience to the Pope, the residents were so grateful that they asked him to be their bishop. He foretold the end of his life and duly died in 1133 in the arms of his brethren who sung psalms throughout.
