BLESSED ALBERTINA BERKENBROCK, MARTYR Blessed Albertina Berkenbrock, born on April 11, 1919, was a Brazilian Catholic lay person. She stood out for her faith in Christ, the Virgin Mary and the Eucharist, as well as for her heroic defence of her virginal purity. Just like St Maria Goretti , Albertina was harassed by a young peasant who wanted to rape her. Because of her fierce resistance, the perpetrator pulled his knife and cut her throat, causing her death. HER DEATH MOVED THE ENTIRE BRAZILIAN NATION She died on June 15, 1931 to the age of 12 years. Her death moved the entire Brazilian nation. Her beatification process was carried out in 2000. Albertina was declared Venerable by Pope Benedict XVI in 2007; and was beatified on October 20, 2007 by Pope Benedict XVI.
