  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN OCTOBER Saints celebrated on the 1st of October WELCOME! SAINT DIGNA [PIGRA], MARTYR OF TOMI Saint Digna (Pigra), commemorated on October 1, was martyred for her Christian faith in Niedermösten¹ . She was a Companion of  Saints Priscus and Denegothia and one  of the two holy ladies of that company called Digna.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN OCTOBER Saints celebrated on the 1st of October WELCOME! BLESSED EDWARD JAMES, PRIEST AND MARTYR Edward James was born at Braiston, in Derbyshire, and was, for some time, student in the college of Rheims; from whence he was sent to Rome, 1588. Here he was made priest; and from hence he was sent upon the English mission. He was apprehended, prosecuted and condemned, barely upon account of his priestly character; and was martyred on the same day, and at the same place, as Mr Ralph Crokett , who had been born at Barton upon the Hill in Cheshire, had performed his studies at Rheims, and was an alumnus and priest of the college then residing in that city: from whence he had been sent upon the English mission in 1585. The particulars of his missionary labours, or of his apprehension and trial, I have not found, only that he was prosecuted and condemned upon the penal statute of 27 Elizabeth , and had been sentenced to die, as in cases of high treason, barely up...

BL. RALPH CROCKETT, PRIEST AND MARTYR - 1 OCTOBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN OCTOBER Saints celebrated on the 1st of October WELCOME! BLESSED RALPH CROCKETT, PRIEST AND MARTYR [Blessed Ralph Crockett was a] priest and martyr; born at Barton-on-the-Hill, near Farndon, Cheshire, England; he suffered martyrdom by being hanged, drawn, and quartered at Broyle Heath, Chichester, October 1, 1588.  Having completed his education at Cambridge, Crockett was a schoolmaster in East Anglia until he discerned a call to the priesthood. He studied and was ordained at Reims (1585). En route to his assignment in the English mission, he was captured on board ship at Littlehampton, Sussex, April 19, 1586, together with Frs. Thomas Bramston, George Potter, and Fr Edward James . The following week they were transferred to a London prison.  On September 30, 1588, he was tried and condemned under 27 Eliz. c. 2 at Chichester with Frs. BL. EDWARD CAMPION, PRIEST AND MARTYR - 1 OCTOBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN OCTOBER Saints celebrated on the 1st of October WELCOME! BLESSED EDWARD CAMPION, PRIEST AND MARTYR Edward Campion (Vere Edwards, Gerard Edwards), Priest and Martyr, was born in 1552 at Ludlow, Shropshire, England; he suffered martyrdom by being hanged, drawn, and quartered at Canterbury, October 1, 1588. Born into a good family, possibly a Protestant one, he studied for two years at Jesus College, Oxford. Thereafter he was in the service of Gregory, tenth Lord Dacre of the South. Having converted to Catholicism, he studied for the priesthood at Reims (1586-87), where he adopted the surname Campion and was ordained for service in the Diocese of Canterbury. He was arrested at Sittingbourne within months of his arrival, imprisoned at Newgate and the Marshalsea with BB. BL. ROBERT WILCOX, PRIEST AND MARTYR - 1 OCTOBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN OCTOBER Saints celebrated on the 1st of October WELCOME! BLESSED ROBERT WILCOX, PRIEST AND MARTYR [Blessed Robert Wilcox was an] English martyr, born at Chester, 1558; suffered at Canterbury, October 1, 1588. He arrived at Reims, August 12, 1583, and received the tonsure and minor orders, September 23 following. He was ordained sub-deacon, March 16, deacon, early April, and priest, April 20, 1585, receiving all these orders at Reims. Sent on the mission, January 7, 1586, he was imprisoned in the Marshalsea that same year. With him suffered two other priests, Christopher Buxton and Edward Campion, and a layman, Robert Widmerpool. All were condemned under 27 Elizabeth cap. 2. [He was beatified by Pius XI on Dec. 15, 1929. BL. ROBERT WIDMERPOOL, MARTYR - 1 OCTOBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN OCTOBER Saints celebrated on the 1st of October WELCOME! BLESSED ROBERT WIDMERPOOL, MARTYR [Blessed Robert Widmerpool was an English] lay martyr; born at Widmerpool, Nottinghamshire, England; hanged at Canterbury, October 1, 1588. After completing his education at Gloucester Hall, Oxford, Widmerpool was tutor to the sons of Henry, ninth Earl of Northumberland, then a schoolmaster.  He was arrested for helping an illegal priest find refuge in the home of the countess of Northumberland, imprisoned at the Marshalsea, and condemned to die with the priests (Blesseds) Robert Wilcox , Edward Campion , and Christopher Buxton . After the executioner put the rope of the gallows around his neck, Widmerpool thanked God for the glory of martyrdom in Canterbury for the cause for which St Thomas died.
