SS. MAURA AND BRITTA, VIRGINS AND MARTYRS - 15 JANUARY

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY Saints celebrated on the 15th of January WELCOME! SAINTS MAURA AND BRITTA, VIRGINS AND MARTYRS  Saints Maura and Britta (Brigida) are commemorated on January 15. These holy Virgins of Tours are identical with the Virgins of the same name at Beauvais, who died there to preserve their innocence and are venerated on July 13 and May 5.  Although Bollandus * (Jan. I. 1018) lists them as separate groups of martyrs, his successors (Maji I . 3 and Jul. III. 471) revise this, having established their shared identity. Migne* also asserts that these martyrs are the same as those at Beauvais.  They renounced the world to live solely for God and were given their resting place at Tours. On the very influential testimony of Saint Gregory of Tours, who had learned of their God-fearing lives and deaths from hearsay (fama ferebat etc.), they started to be venerated there as saints. SAINT MAURA, VIRGIN AND MARTYR OF CONSTANTINOPLE - 30 NOVEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER Saints celebrated on the 30th of November SAINT MAURA, VIRGIN AND MARTYR OF CONSTANTINOPLE Today, we also commemorate Saint Maura. The Roman Martyrology states:  "At Constantinople, Saint Maura, virgin and martyr." PRAYER: Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saint Maura may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

SAINT MAURA OF TOURAINE, MARTYR - 25 OCTOBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN OCTOBER Saints celebrated on the 25th of October WELCOME! SAINT MAURA OF TOURAINE, MARTYR Saint Maura, a martyr at Touraine, died about the time of St Martin of Tours - towards the end of the fourth century - for the truth of the Catholic faith at the hands of the Arian Goths. Among the eight sons who died with her, St Spanus (Epain in French) is the most famous among them: the city Epain is named after him. (El. Mg.) SAINT MAURA OF KILMORE, VIRGIN - 2 NOVEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER   Saints celebrated on the 2nd of November SAINT MAURA OF KILMORE, VIRGIN Saint Maura, a Scottish maiden who lived in the ninth century, founded a monastery which gave rise to the later town of Kilmore (Cellula Maurae) . She died in A.D. 899, and is also listed in the Elenchus* with the addition proper Kuningam in Scotia.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN SEPTEMBER Saints celebrated on the 21st of September Prayer to the Angels and the Saints Heavenly Father, in praising Your Angels and Saints we praise Your glory, for by honouring them we honour You, their Creator. Their splendour shows us Your greatness, which infinitely surpasses that of all creation. In Your loving providence, You saw fit to send Your Angels to watch over us. Grant that we may always be under their protection and one day enjoy their company in heaven. Heavenly Father, You are glorified in Your Saints, for their glory is the crowning of Your gifts. You provide an example for us by their lives on earth, You give us their friendship by our communion with them, You grant us strength and protection through their prayer for the Church, and You spur us on to victory over evil and the prize of eternal glory by this great company of witnesses.
