  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL Saints celebrated on the 2nd of April WELCOME! SAINT JOHN PAINE, PRIEST AND MARTYR Saint John Paine [Payne] was an English martyr. Born at Peterborough (the exact date of birth is unknown), he suffered martyrdom at Chelmsford, Essex, April 2, 1582.  His family was probably Protestant, but the time and circumstances of his conversion are not documented. He entered Douai College in 1574 to study for the priesthood and was for a time made bursar of the college; this indicates that he had some experience in stewardship, probably as a servant of the Shelley family at Stondon Hall in Essex. While he was at Douai, he saw a vision of the figure of Christ rising from the Sacrament during the Elevation. This vision was the subject of the Bosworth Burse now in Leicester Museum.  On April 7, 1576, Fr John Paine was ordained, and a few days later he set out for England with (Saint)  Cuthbert Mayne . BLESSED NICHOLAS CHARNETSKY, BISHOP AND MARTYR Nicholas Charnetsky (Mykolai Charnetskyi, Mykolay Charnetsky) was born in the village of Semakivtsia, Ukraine, on December 14, 1884. He came from a large family, all of them devout members of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church which is in communion with the Bishop of Rome and is distinct from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. From a young age, Nicholas had expressed a desire to become a priest and when he was 18 years of age, the Ukrainian Catholic  Bishop Gregory Khomyshyn sent him to study at the Ukrainian College in Rome. After his ordination to the Catholic priesthood in 1909, Father Nicholas returned from Ukraine to Rome so that he might complete a Doctorate in Theology, which he did the following year.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL Saints celebrated on the 2nd of April SAINT MUSA, VIRGIN Gregory the Great commemorates Saint Musa in his dialogues (IV. 17) and calls her a Roman virgin. She lived in great piety, and in an apparition of the Mother of God received an exhortation to humility and the announcement of her death, which would come thirty days later. The apparition repeated itself as Musa's end happened. With the words: "My Lady, behold I come!" the saint departed.  No other details are known about her than that she had a brother named Probus. Undoubtedly, she lived in the sixth century.
