  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN OCTOBER Saints celebrated on the 31st of October WELCOME! SAINT ALPHONSUS RODRIGUEZ, JESUIT Alphonsus Rodriguez lived a whole life before entering the  Society of Jesus . He was a husband, a father, a businessman. But when his family died and his business collapsed, his entire life was upended. Alphonsus had been in comfortable circumstances, born in 1533 as the son of a wool merchant. When Peter Faber , one of the original  Jesuits , visited the city to preach, the Rodriguez family provided hospitality to the  Jesuit .  Faber  prepared the young Rodriguez for his First Communion. At the age of twelve, Alphonsus was sent to the new  Jesuit  college at Alcala,  but left two years later to help his mother run the family business after his father died. At the age of 26, he married Maria Suarez, a woman of his own station, with whom he had three children. At the age of 31, she had died as did two of their children. From...

Saint Toribio, or Turibius Alphonsus Mogrobejo, was second son to the Lord of Mogrobejo, and born in the kingdom of Leon, on November 16, 1538.  HIS PIETY From his infancy he discovered a strong inclination to piety; and, in his childhood, it was his delight, at times of recreation, to erect and adorn altars and to serve the poor. He trembled at the very shadow of sin. One day, seeing a poor pedlar woman angry because she had lost something out of her pack, he most movingly entreated and exhorted her, that she would not offend God by passion; and, in order to appease her, gave her the value of her loss, which he had begged of his mother for that purpose. SAINT ALPHONSUS LIGUORI, BISHOP AND DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH ⬅️ Doctors of the Church - Complete List Saint Alphonsus Liguori was born in 1696 in Naples. A lawyer who became a priest, St Alphonsus founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (the  Redemptorists ). He was a fervent preacher, and a moral theologian of eminence, who opposed the rigours of Jansenism. He was much in demand as a confessor, seeking to win back the sinful by gentle and direct appeal to the Gospel. He wrote many works of devotion which became very popular. He was made bishop of Sant’ Agata dei Gotti, but after thirteen years returned to his congregation. He died in 1787. PRAYER: Father, you constantly build up your Church by the lives of your saints.
