ST CILLEN, CONFESSOR - 19 APRIL

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL Saints celebrated on the 19th of April WELCOME! SAINT CILLEN, CONFESSOR ⬅️ Litany of the Irish Saints Saint Cillen ( Killenus ) appears on April 19 in the martyrologies of Tallaght* and Marianus Gormanus* ; otherwise, he is unknown. Kelly* lists only " S. Cilleni " for April 19. It is, however, quite possible that he is identical to another Killenus or Killinus ; as Kelly * himself notes (p. 75 ), some saints are listed on multiple days - a fact he explains by suggesting that these may represent different feast days for the same saint.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL Saints celebrated on the 19th of April WELCOME! BLESSED JAMES DUCKETT, MARTYR James Duckett, layman, was a younger son of Mr Duckett, of Gilfortrigs, in the parish of Schelsmore, in Westmoreland. He had the name of James given him in baptism from his godfather, James Leybourn, Esq., lord of Schelsmore, (who was drawn, hanged, and quartered at Lancaster, March 22, 1583, for denying the queen's supremacy,) yet it seems he was brought up a protestant, and, after some years passed in the school, was bound apprentice in London.  Here, after some time, a countryman of his, one Peter Mason, put a book in his hands, entitled, The Foundation of the Catholic Religion ; which he diligently perused, and, by the reading of it, was brought to stagger very much in his opinion; insomuch that he, who before was so zealous in his way, that he would have heard two or three sermons on a day, began now to withdraw himself from their sermons and service, and to be m...

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL Saints celebrated on the 19th of April WELCOME! SAINT ANGELINUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS OF BRIXEN On April 19, the Martyrology of Brixen in Tyrol features the following entry:   "In Brixen the day of death (natalis, i.e. the heavenly birthday) of the holy martyrs and spouses Angelinus and Orielda with their sons Paulinus and Gentilis, whose bodies are preserved at the church of Saint Afra (Aphra). They professed Jesus Christ under the Count (sub comite) Aurelianus, and were therefore thrown down from a height, as a result of which they became martyrs." Because an Aurelian was in charge during the first century (during the reign of Trajan's successor Hadrian), it was generally assumed that these martyrs suffered at that time in history. The learned Bollandist Papebroch* , in his Propylæum Antiquarium , with which he prefaces with the second volume of April, suggests that the martyrs suffered at a later date.  In any case, Angelinus is surna...
