SAINT LIBERIUS, BISHOP OF RAVENNA - 29 APRIL

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL Saints celebrated on the 29th of April SAINT LIBERIUS, BISHOP OF RAVENNA A page of one of Fortunatus Hueber's Saints' books, "Stammenbuch..." (1693) Saint Liberius, French St-Libère, Bishop of Ravenna in Italy, the first of that name, came from Greece (according to Ferrarius *) and was of rare philosophical learning. After the death of st Dathus (Datus) he was chosen as bishop of Ravenna because a dove seemed to have landed near him. His nomination happened at the time of  Emperor Commodus. He was the 9th bishop of this see, but the first of that name, elected in A.D. 185, died in 206. Filled with extraordinary zeal for souls, Liberius was completely devoted to God and brought many unbelievers and heretics to the knowledge of the truth. He held the office of bishop for twenty-one years. His body was buried at the Church of Saint Probus and later transferred to the Church of Saint Ursus.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER Saints celebrated on the 30th of December Prayer to the Angels and the Saints Heavenly Father, in praising Your Angels and Saints we praise Your glory, for by honouring them we honour You, their Creator. Their splendour shows us Your greatness, which infinitely surpasses that of all creation. In Your loving providence, You saw fit to send Your Angels to watch over us. Grant that we may always be under their protection and one day enjoy their company in heaven. Heavenly Father, You are glorified in Your Saints, for their glory is the crowning of Your gifts. You provide an example for us by their lives on earth, You give us their friendship by our communion with them, You grant us strength and protection through their prayer for the Church, and You spur us on to victory over evil and the prize of eternal glory by this great company of witnesses.
