She was a daughter of Elector Rupert III of the Palatinate and Elisabeth, daughter of Burgrave Frederick of Nuremberg. [Born in 1376], she had six brothers and two sisters, of whom she was the second-born. We know little of her youth. More out of weakness and compliance with custom than out of love of vanity, it is said, she for a time embraced the splendour of dress customary at the time.  When she turned twenty, Duke Charles II of Lorraine asked her to marry him. HOSIUS, BISHOP OF CORDOBA The bishop Hosius ( Osius ) of Cordova (Cordoba) is revered as a saint by the Greeks, but the western churches have not included his name in their martyrologies. For this reason the Bollandists * (Aug. VI. 2) place him among the Praetermissi regardless of his immortal services to the true faith.  The year and place of his birth and unknown; but he is thought to have been born in Cordoba around the year 260. At the end of the third century he became bishop of this See. His faithfulness and purity of conduct made him worthy of this dignity; he excelled also by his great learning and prudence.  When Maximianus Herculeus persecuted the Church of God in Spain, he shone before his flock as an example by steadfastness and courage in faith. Even prison and torture he endured with invincible firmness. In this way he gained the name and honour of a "confessor" in 303. ...

He died in the Quirinal, August 27, 1590.  He belonged to a Dalmatian family which in the middle of the preceding century had fled to Italy from the Turks who were devastating Illyria and threatened to invade Dalmatia. SAINT CAESARIUS OF ARLES, BISHOP Saint Caesarius was born in 470, in the territory of Challons, on the Saone, and descended from a family of distinguished piety. When but seven years old, he often gave his clothes to poor people whom he met begging. In his youth he resolved to renounce the world.    Eonius, the archbishop,  ordained him deacon, and afterwards priest; soon after he made him abbot of a monastery built in an island in the Rhone, within the suburbs of the city. Three years after, lying on his death-bed, he recommended him for his successor. The saint fled, and hid himself among the Roman sumptuous tombs, a great number of which are remaining to this day near the city; but being discovered, he was obliged to acquiesce in the unanimous election of the clergy and the whole city, in 501.
