SAINT SYLVESTER GOZZOLINI, ABBOT  Saint Sylvester Gozzolini, born of a noble family at Osimo, in Picenum, was remarkable, even as a boy, for his keen intelligence and upright conduct. Being duly instructed in sacred learning and made a Canon, he benefited his people by his example and his sermons. At the funeral of a relative, who was also a nobleman and a very handsome person, on seeing the disfigured corpse in the open tomb, he said: “What this man was, I am now; what he is now, I shall be.” HE SPENT HIMSELF IN VIGILS, PRAYER, AND FASTING He soon retired to a lonely place with the desire for greater perfection, and there spent himself in vigils, prayer and fasting. SAINT CONRAD, BISHOP OF CONSTANCE This eminent servant of God was, by his humility and sanctity, the bright ornament of the most illustrious house of the Guelphs, in Germany, which so many princes have honoured with their martial achievements and sovereign dignities. SAINT LEONARD OF PORT MAURICE, PRIEST Saint Leonard of Port Maurice was a preacher and ascetic writer; he was born on December 20, 1676, at Porto Maurizio on the Riviera di Ponente. The son of Domenico Casanova and Anna Maria Benza, he joined after a brilliant course of study with the  Jesuits in Rome (Collegio Romano), the so-called Riformella, an offshoot of the Reformati branch of the Franciscan Order.  HE JOINED THE RIFORMELLA On October 2, 1697, he received the habit, and after making his novitiate at Ponticelli in the Sabine mountains, he completed his studies at the principal house of the Riformella, S.
