UNWAN, BISHOP OF BREMEN - 28 JANUARY

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY Saints celebrated on the 28th of January WELCOME! UNWAN, BISHOP OF BREMEN Unwan (Unwin, Ungan, Unwannus ) (27 or 28 January), a bishop of Bremen, successor to Libentius I , who died in 1013, was an extremely learned and God-fearing man. He led this church for 16 years and in the year 1022 convened a Danish National Council in Schleswig. King Knud himself, who usually stayed in England, came to Denmark on this occasion. The resolutions of the same no longer seem to exist (according to Jensen, Schlesw.-Holst. K.-G. I. 108). Bishop Unwan died on January 28, 1029. The Bollandists * list Unwan among the Praetermissi since it is uncertain whether he may be venerated as a saint. PAUL V., POPE - 28 JANUARY

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY Saints celebrated on the 28th of January WELCOME! PAUL V., POPE  ⬅️ Saintly Popes - Index Camillo Borghese was born at Rome, September 17, 1550; elected May 16, 1605; he died January 28, 1621.  Although proud to call himself, as we read on the façade of St Peter's and on his epitaph, a Roman, Borghese was descended from a noble family of Siena which held important positions in that city, and claimed St Catherine for a relative.  Their removal to Rome was caused by the endless disturbances which made life in Siena unbearable.  Camillo was carefully trained in jurisprudence at Perugia and Padua, and became a canonist of marked ability. He rose in the ecclesiastical career steadily, if not rapidly; in 1596 he was made cardinal by Clement VIII, and became Cardinal-Vicar of Rome.  He held aloof from all parties and factions, devoting all his spare time to his law-books. In consequence, on the death of Leo XI, all eyes were centred on him, and he ascend

SAINT FEAST DAY 28 JANUARY: ST THOMAS AQUINAS

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY Saints celebrated on the 28th of January WELCOME! SAINT THOMAS AQUINAS, PRIEST AND DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH ⬅️ Doctors of the Church - Complete List Saint Thomas Aquinas was born about 1225. He entered the Dominican Order in 1244. He realised in all its fullness the Dominican ideal: to contemplate and to give to others the fruits of contemplation. Philosopher, theologian, and professor, Thomas reflected much, taught much, wrote much. Because, however, he was a contemplative before all else, he prayed much, and subjected himself to hard discipline, that he might attain to pure light. He died in 1274. PRAYER: O God of light and truth, you sent St Thomas Aquinas to learn wisdom through prayer and study. Through his intercession and example, illumine all your Church with the knowledge of you that comes through love made humble in the presence of your mystery. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
