BLESSED JOHN BODEY, MARTYR - 2 NOVEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER   Saints celebrated on the 2nd of November BLESSED JOHN BODEY, MARTYR ⬅️ The Holy Martyrs of England and Wales [Blessed] John Bodey was a martyr, born at Wells, Somerset in 1549, he died at Andover, Wiltshire, on November 2, 1583. He studied at Winchester and New College, Oxford, of which he became a Fellow in 1568.  In June, 1576, he was deprived, with seven other Fellows, by the Visitor, Horne, Protestant Bishop of Winchester. Next year he went to Douay College to study civil law, returned to England in February, 1578, and probably married.  Arrested in 1580, he was kept in iron shackles in Winchester gaol, and was condemned in April, 1583, together with John Slade , a schoolmaster, for maintaining the old religion and denying the Royal Supremacy. There was apparently a feeling that this sentence was unjust and illegal, and they were actually tried and condemned again at Andover, 19 August, 1583, on the same indictment. Bodey had...

SAINT WILLIAM, ABBOT OF BELMONT - 2 NOVEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER   Saints celebrated on the 2nd of November SAINT WILLIAM, ABBOT OF BELMONT Saint William (Guilielmus), abbot of Belmont in the Vosges, died in great holiness about the middle of the 9th century. His veneration continued until the time of the Reformation.  St Achericus took over the management of the monastery from him, which later received the name of St Achery. BLESSED BOSA, BISHOP OF YORK - 2 NOVEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER   Saints celebrated on the 2nd of November BLESSED BOSA, BISHOP OF YORK Blessed Bosa (Boxa, Bossa, Boso), a bishop of York in England, died in A.D. 686. Migne * lists him among the "saints" and states that his feast is celebrated on November 2, probably because he is venerated on that day in England. Blessed Bosa is also commemorated on March 9. VOISLAUS, RELIGIOUS AND MARTYR - 2 NOVEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER   Saints celebrated on the 2nd of November VOISLAUS, RELIGIOUS AND MARTYR Voislaus, a Franciscan, was a missionary in Prussia. He was martyred by beheading about A.D. 1289. With him was killed his fellow monk Conrad. Both martyrs are listed in Hueber's Menologium*. SAINT BRENDAN, BISHOP ON THE ISLE OF MAN - 2 NOVEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER   Saints celebrated on the 2nd of November WELCOME! SAINT BRENDAN, BISHOP ON THE ISLE OF MAN ⬅️ Litany of the Irish Saints Saint Brendan (Brendanus) , a bishop on the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea, is documented to have lived in the ninth century. Perhaps he is identical with S. Bradanus , who is commemorated on October 20. (Mg.) SAINT SEVOLD, CONFESSOR - 2 NOVEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER   Saints celebrated on the 2nd of November SAINT SEVOLD, CONFESSOR Saint Sevold (Sevoldus) , a confessor from England, lived in the 8th century His relics were found in the Abbey of St Valery (sur Somme) and at St Vulfran in Abbeville (Abbatis Villa) , Bishopric of Amiens. There they are well preserved and venerated. His memory is honoured in the Ponthieu region. St Sevold is also commemorated on September 16. SAINT AMBROSE, ABBOT OF SAINT MAURICE - 2 NOVEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER   Saints celebrated on the 2nd of November WELCOME! SAINT AMBROSE, ABBOT OF SAINT MAURICE Saint Ambrose (Ambrosius) was abbot of the monastery of St Moritz  (Agaunum) [Abbey of Saint Maurice, Saint-Maurice d'Agaune] in the canton of Valais in Switzerland.  He lived during the reign of King Sigismund of Burgundy, who restored this monastery. He himself followed  Saint Hymnemund  and had Saint Achida (Achidus) as successor. He died around A.D. 560. His name is listed in the Roman Martyrology on November 2. (Buc.) SAINT MAURA OF KILMORE, VIRGIN - 2 NOVEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER   Saints celebrated on the 2nd of November SAINT MAURA OF KILMORE, VIRGIN Saint Maura, a Scottish maiden who lived in the ninth century, founded a monastery which gave rise to the later town of Kilmore (Cellula Maurae) . She died in A.D. 899, and is also listed in the Elenchus* with the addition proper Kuningam in Scotia.
